I've just seen this BBC News article where people are whining about the tube station closure. Don't these people realise that the station needs to be closed at some time, and doing now before the usage drastically increases is a sensible thing. Its not as if there aren't at least two other tube stations in walking distance, plenty of local buses and a free replacement bus service As for the claim that it is "unprecedented" what about Regents Park? Queensway? Mornington Crescent? Heathrow Terminal 4? the East London Line? etc, etc,

Holland Park is very close by. I'm sure the contractors working on site will use these businesses that whinge.
Agree with you Chris, on all points. The station DOES need to close, a shame to loose the building and the nice poster at the top of the escalators, but it just isn't going to fit in with the development or usage when the development is completed. If the expected number of pax use the station as is forecasted, we'll have station closures every 30 minutes for crowd congestion...
A little inconvenience for a lot of gain [MORE customers for the businesses in the not-to-distant-future]

One lady was complaining that her journey of 40mins could take up to an hour and a half now.
Which is a load of bull really.
A man complained about there being no lifts installed at the new station. Is this true? It seems a bit odd for LU not to during the long closure.

Yeah I saw the woman complaining about her journey taking an hour and a half now but I thought she said her journey is usually 20 minutes!... even so you could get a 94 to Oxford Circus and still have loads of time to spare... haha! What a moron, why do they let these people give comments on the news?

Where was she trying to get to? It took me about an hour and half to get the Shepherd's Bush Empire from zone 6 on Friday - and that was door to door and included buying food en route to the station!

Perhaps she should have been asked to talk directly, on camera to a rep of our Comp'y who would have explained to her, alternatives...
As I say, White City is a short 8-10 minute walk up Wood Lane, or Holland Park is an equidistant walk along H. Park Ave, after negotiating the subway, its no problem!
I cannot see how her 20 minute journey will become five times as long!

Well exactly! I went to watch QPR today-I when to White City and actually walked to Shephard's Bush (Market) H&C just to get some chips! Its not that far at all! The sticking point maybe the closing of the Hamersmith-Baker St section today!!

If the bottom of the escalators were at platform level then I suspect they would do. I don't think it would be difficult to get lifts down to the bottom of the escalators, but that doesn't actually get you step free access.

Aye, yeah, I was just thinking we might need one running tunnel to be diverted as the platform being a narrow island platform, does not leave much space for the lift shaft to be placed at platform level!

The platform is V shaped, pointing east, and I suspect there would be room at the west end. Although there wouldn't be room for the lift and stairs!

You've got the sump & pump room and access stairway at the east end as well to think about!

Don't forget that there are existing shafts alread at Shepherds Bush...
Te plan *was* to use these and the old access to the platforms (where the signal cable run is) then go over the tracks and in another lift down, but this idea has been shelved now.

TBH I can't understand the whine. White City and Holland Park are a stone throw away (as well as Shepherd's Bush H&C station, although it is not a direct replacement), and 20 000 daily punters does not look like a big number...

I can't understand the complaints either. I've walked from White City to Shepherds Bush many times, often to escape the legendary BBC catering, and it takes less than 10 minutes. If I had a house right next to the green I might be annoyed, but I suspect the real number of people affected is very small.
I have my suspicions as to why it got reported as a national BBC story online rather than a local one, but it's not really for me to speculate about. Just think about where BBC News is based vs BBC London's location. Or maybe it was just a slow news day.

Yeah...
Todays plan:- grab x3 number unsuspecting commuters, think up a story re closure of station, make it sound like its in the middle of nowhere, get pax to complain viz, pay commuter £20 for time.

I can't recall what it was though.
