Well I'm posting it here as Richmond is a Network Rail owned station, operated by South West Trains and has is provided with Train services by SWT as well as London Over/Under ground.
Mind you, the point I want to make really applies to LU trains..........anyway, this board seemed best ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'm actually surprised none of our 'punter' members have raised this issue before - or the drivers come to that.
Ok, ok, I'll get on with it...........
Prior to a District line train arriving, the automatic PA announcement on the platform says:
"The next train to arrive at platform x is the 1356 (example) London Underground service to Richmond calling at District line stations to Richmond via Earls Court".
What is the point of that announcement?
I haven't finished yet though! As the train arrives in the platform, you get treated to this:
"The train at platform x is the 1356 London Underground service from xxxxxxx calling at District line stations to Richmond via Earls Court".
Oh theres more
After the train has fully berthed in the platform - customers will notice this as the doors open allowing everyone to alight and board - you get this gem:
"The train now standing at platform x is not in use, please stand away from the train at platform x.
At this point, the DMI's also show that the train is not in service and is not to be boarded.
Ermmm hello - why can't the punters board the train?
The scene at Richmond today was of the usual quality....
Punter #1: is there a problem?
Me: No mate.....ignore the announcements.........that trains first
Punter #2: excuse me....is there a problem?
Me: No luv.....ignore the announcements.........that trains first
Punter #3: alright driver......whats up today then?
Me: Nothing wrong mate.....ignore the announcements.........that trains first
Punter #4: excuse me......
Me: Listen to my announcement - I'll explain everything....
As you've probably rightly guessed, I haven't even managed to get out of the cab yet, let alone change ends
Me: Ladies & Gents, please ignore the platform announcements and the screens.......both of these trains are in service, there are no problems and everything is hunkey dorey.....your first train will be the one in the opposite platform. Once again, please ignore the platform announcements........there are no problems and the first train is that one opposite.
Come on Network Rail, SWT or whoever - it's a complete farce and is making the railways, and the likes of me, look very silly indeed as well as creating unnecessary agg.......
Please sort it out!!
