I notice we now have posters up around the system advising people to avoid Bank during the escalator works which have been going on for some weeks.
Is there any easy way to find out which escalators are in service?

Err.............TFL website. Er, no - that's very non-specific - "Reduced escalator service until further notice." is about all it gives.

Why don't you go there and have a look yourself?

Why don't you go there and have a look yourself? To the web page or to the station? If the former, I have. If the latter, the whole point of my enquiry would be wasted if I did that.

Try calling the enquiries line is all I can think of, I don't think any information has been given to station staff that I'm aware of - all I've really seen are the details of the PA that's supposed to be put out about it. Unless it's buried somewhere deeper in the Traffic Circular that I've overlooked.

Possibly they're avoiding giving it out so that people won't think "Oooo, my route seems okay..." Alternatively, possibly because it's going to be subject to change? Although escalator works take a while, I don't know if they're doing any 'quick' ones - or even if they change the flow around the station depending on the time of day.

I find this weird because on the TFL website it seems that there is scripts for "one" trains to announce about the escalator works at bank... if it is this important you would think they would advise THERE OWN drivers about it, I only know about it because of a message at Tower Hill and on the intranet, which many drivers don't have access to!

Well the spiral staircase from the Central to the Northern will be fine I imagine! (That's the bit I'll be using on Monday morning and through the week if I can't find accommodation in Portsmouth).

This is probably a bit late but ( - and as long as it hasn't changed in the week or so i've been off!) it's the 2 down escalators between the central line and the DLR that are out at the moment (the ones if you followed the 'district and circle' signs off the central platforms, or took the escalator down from the Northern Gateline).... Central to Northern via spiral staircase is fine and Northern line via lifts to way out is fine as is DLR to Monument side exit/district and circle lines....

When I interchanged here shortly before Christmas from the DLR to the W&C there was only an up escalator and narrow stairs in operation at the Bank end of the DLR cross passage. Then the signed route to the W&C was closed by wicket gates and I had to find my own way up the (very busy) spiral stair case and then along the eastbound Central Line platform. The Central to W&C interchange was apparently unimpeded, although I've not made that connection before so I can't be certain.

It was a nightmare a while back when the down escalator to DLR platforms was out. Luckly I was going up.
Theres been loads of station announcements lately advicing you to avoid Bank and giving out suggestions to alternate interchange routes.

Well transfer from Central to W&C seemed pretty straightforward prior to Christmas (have been out of town since) except for the time I had a suitcase, went up the escalator to the central ticket hall no problem, then faced two up travelators down to the W&C... it's a long way down those stairs with a suitcase...

It was a nightmare a while back when the down escalator to DLR platforms was out. Luckly I was going up. Unfortunately, I go in the opposite direction! Fortunately it's much better now it's the up escalator that's out of service. The bottleneck that used to build up at the end of plat 10 was not a pleasant place to be at 8:30am. And when the Jubby went down one morning Canada Water to North Greenwich - carnage!

Luckily, there are loads of duplicated routes in the Bank / Monument complex, so if you know where you're going, there should be a way round. Have always found the stairs from the DLR direct to the Northern line platforms can cut out the crowds at platform 10.

I haven't actually been to Bank this year yet... been taking alternative routes via Tower Hill instead and will probably continue to do so.
Stairs are quite a pain for me anyway - if avoidable, I prefer to.
