EDIT: Is anything being planned in terms of an official last run? Yes, but I think the details are still being worked out.

TfL clearly wants to get rid of the C69/77 series due to their deteriorating condition. Then they will think about the D78. Well, the C stock are now between 45 and 37 years old, so it makes sense. What happens is the heavy maintenance such as lifts and overhauls will have stopped at the last interval, and then the push will start on eliminating individual units as they come up for lifts, up to a certain date.

I've heard the 10th of feb. I think you may have got the wrong end of the stick. All C&H services may be worked by S7 after 10.02.14, however should a C be available and an S not, there shouldn't be a reason why a C cannot be offered for service. Also the 10th is unlikely to be the 'official' last day; merely the last regular day in service on the C&H.

I overtook a C stock car on the M1 near Leicester on Monday [January 12th): 6557 I think - Slightly surprised as the only others I've seen on the road were a pair heading south, on the M25 near Staines before Christmas - presumably to Eastleigh. Not had any responses to this - is it a State Secret or does no-one know? @johncoleman: have you ever come across the concept of punctuation? I'm getting breathless just reading some of your posts!

I went out on the Hammersmith & City today, and I got to Hammersmith at around 1120, and left by C Stock a couple minutes later, and my train was passed by two other C Stocks in quick succession, so this one after 1012 each day must have hit a hitch today.

You timed it nicely! As the 1126 from Hammersmith is indeed the 1012 from Barking. The 1112 and 1121 were coincidentally C Stock also today. The 1211 departure was also a C today.

I've been down in London today visiting my Dad and have to say we successfully completed our travelling on the H&C/Circle Line without having to endure the delights of these ageing cattle wagons. I spotted only two going in the opposite direction and it was interesting to see that, in both cases, the platforms they departed from remained fairly full. Now I realise there are a multitude of destinations available Westbound at Farringdon so there may have been a degree of selection in that respect but maybe the people squashed up on the platform there had a similar distaste for C Stock considering the next one along would likely be a brighter, air conditioned effort!
Next visit in March where it seem from the experts on here that I'll be extremely unlucky to have a C darken my journey.
C Stock, the underground train equivalent of the Austin Maxi.......masses of space to shift things but no style, poor reliability and not really worth preserving.
Even my father, approaching 80 was moved to say "these new trains are ten times better than the what we used before son!" and he's a card carrying Luddite who hates progress with a vengeance!

It was the same when the essies replaced the A-Stock on the Met, especially in the summer when the A/C is big benefit. Whilst it won't be popular in this forum, (there was a lot of dewy eyed romanticism with the demise of the A-Stock,) plenty of people were glad to see the end of them. What I noticed was at the termini people would (given a choice) go the the essies, though I can't say I noticed any great numbers miss a "through" train in the hope that the next would be an essy.

Yes, the District Line ones will be C stock. The first S stock in service on that route isn't far off but the date isn't upon us yet.

Unless plans have changed it's four. 1 Hammersmith - Northwood, 2 Hammersmith - Neasden and 1 Lillie Bridge - Neasden. If that happens that will give 11x6 trains left for an 8-train District service, assuming none creep out on the C&H after Monday.
