I really don't get all the hatred for the C stock. OK, so they are not one of the classics, but they have their own characteristics which make them different to other trains. My fondest memories of them date back to their pre refurbished condition. I used to like the seating layout, it almost felt like a compartment stock with the 2 X 4 transverse seating between the big draught screens. Tney also made a terrific whining noise when driven at speed. Very few of them about today on the H&C and Circle lines. Spent about 40 mins at Liverpool Street and it was all S stock. Saw 4 C's at various locations, excluding the Wimblewares. I don't think I could claim to hate anybody or anything, life's too short for that, just that I think that C stock are, as I stated above, the most lamentable (by a country mile) of all the underground trains I've travelled on. Just an opinion! On the other hand ST, the term "Wimbleware" has me reaching for my gun! District Line will do nicely....... Taking this line of thought to extremes, we could start calling Piccadilly airport services "Cock Row". Merry Christmas to all of you on here as well as the people who keep the underground running and put up with all the complaints about 1 minute delays etc...........and to all underground trains - surviving or scrapped, even C stock!

It's not official and those caught saying it should be forced to eat dry turkey sandwiches for the rest of their lives. I don't include you in this ST as you've obviously been unfairly influenced by person or persons unknown and require a second chance....... Rich

Rich Nun's outfitter - I won't make a habit of using the term in the future! I wonder if the train crews used to use that name? Also, what about "Bakerloo"? Surely this is just as bad as "Wimbleware", except that we've never known it called by anything different, so we're used to it. I'm assuming that nobody on here was around when it was called the Baker Street and Waterloo railway . . .

I wonder if the train crews used to use that name? It has been discussed many times here, train crews and others on the District, only see this term used on this Forum! never do we hear it mentioned at work.

Also, what about "Bakerloo"? Terrible name, sounds like a poor quality hard reconstituted plastic toilet and it doesn't help that the line colour is brown. My brother, once in the grip of Crohn's disease sent a picture of the London Underground to all his friends and myself with the Embankment to Lambeth North section carefully segmented and illustrated as "Major engineering works on the Bakerloo Line" in order to explain the extent of his upcoming bowel surgery. Rather good I thought! It just occurred to me that with this predilection for underground portmanteau it's a damn shame the Piccadilly Line never started at Arsenal and terminated at Holborn. Think about it. I'd give a small mortgage to listen to the DVAs on those trains. Rich

When is the next lot of C stocks going? Allelys were ready and waiting at Northwood when I passed an hour or so back so I assume a further 6 Cars of 'C' Stock are being disposed of.

Indeed today, Monday and Wednesday. 5702 from Monday's scrap run was still at Northwood this morning which would suggest no scrap run today. Should there, however, be a scrap run today or later this week, a grafitti covered 5591+5601+5605 resides in the Klondyke Sidings at Neasden Depot. I can't report on any other units that arrived at Northwood since Friday as it was dark each time I passed the Northwood site prior to this morning. A grafitti covered 'A' Stock Unit can be seen at the back of Neasden Depot from the main line. I assume it is 5234 which was targeted several weeks back. It is sad that 27 years on since the scourge of grafitti first started to impact the Underground's rolling stock and despite all the measures taken, experience gained and lessons learnt over that period, it is still occurring. If it is that an 'A' Stock Unit is to be preserved for the long term which I sincerely hope, it would be pointless keeping it at Neasden unless it can be kept permanently under cover which I would guess would not be an option given the day to day production needs at the depot.

I overtook a C stock car on the M1 near Leicester on Monday: 6557 I think - traffic was heavy and the lorry was wide so my main concern was not hitting it rather than confirming its number! Slightly surprised as the only others I've seen on the road were a pair heading south, on the M25 near Staines before Christmas.

5591+5601+5605 is now at Northwood and 5702-6702 have both gone. As of 15.00.

That's quite soon, it really does creep up on you. I assume that at that point, C stock will cease operating on the H&C&C

I assume that at that point, C stock will cease operating on the H&C&C I don't think the C stock will officially be withdrawn from the Circle and H$C until the Wimbleware (sorry, Whistlekiller!) has been completely converted to S stock. However, I do expect there to be few, if any, C stocks running on the H&C and Circle by mid Feb. I'm hoping that the last C stock will operate on the H&C or Circle as I've always associated those trains with those lines to a far greater extent than the District. Does anyone know if there are any plans for a last day send off for the C stock?

I will certainly go on a tour and attend the last run. It may be not be the best train built for LT but its got character and a history. I much prefer it to the soulless S stock that is replacing it even though in most cases it is a big improvement for users. I just don't like new trains personally!

.....Wimbleware (sorry, Whistlekiller!).......... "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers by saying "Wimbleware". And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee." Whistlekiller 25:17

After all, I've yet to meet anyone other than those in the enthusiast community who refers to the service as 'Wimbleware'.

Of course, what would be interesting is that if, by reading this forum, LU managers think the name is a good, idea, then bring it in officially!

Wonderful how we all have entirely different perceptions of the same physical entity. I'm with the majority, can't stand the C stock and will be overjoyed when the last one gets crushed to a black hole. Looking back, there's not a single other type I've ever felt that way about (and that's going right back to 34 tube stock, Metropolitan T, F, P/Q/R, the clerestory Districts etc) - all had character and merit, imho, apart from the dreadful tin cans thankfully rapidly disappearing from our C, HC & D lines. Even the rather anodyne 69/72 tubes have merit and I look forward to their 60th anniversary on the Bakerloo. And despite fondness for most of the byegone classes, I really like the S stock. For the first time in their history, to my mind, the Circle etc have real trains on them - which the Bombardiers surely are, similar to the mainline 375-379 - as opposed to cheap dingy tinny toytown stuff (OK, not the skirted P/Q/R, they had real character, but still didn't look like proper trains). The S stock is superbly fit for purpose in every respect (other than not enough seats for long-distance Metro line commuters in the peak), and looks good, is bright, spacious, has aircon, and sings modernity and class in a sometimes aging and oppressive subterranean environment. C stock is the direct opposite, and good riddance.

That's not going to happen, not without death on the streets. I praise the introduction of S7s. Finally, the service between Edgware Road and Wimbledon (see what I did there) will only appear on the green map and be freed from the clutches of the dubious needs of geekness to revert in all it's glory to (wow) "The District Line". How simple is that eh? I type this missive direct from the pub, where I know my faculties haven't been affected by several pints of top quality European lager........... Rich
