With backdrop of Harrow Hill, today's C stock run to Northwood approaches North Harrow picture here driving units 5602 and 5724, presume the middle one was 5535 as reported above. Today's historical photo - C stock passes Shepherds Bush market August 1981 picture here "clutter" at the end of Goldhawk Road station makes this shot difficult today.

After today's to Northwood, nothing more until the new year.
As of now there are 18 trains left comprising 39 C69s and 15 C77s (54 2-car units). Not all units may be 'active' however.

From what I have heard, they are all going to be scrapped. They have no need to keep one or two on as they have done on the met (and soon to be district) for RAT duties, and they have no historical significance, unlike the A60 stock. It would have been nice to keep one, but additionally they have been run into the ground, so repairing it to a decent nick would have been a substantial cost.

Is there still a sad solitary C stock on the H&C or is now S-stock only?
Also, any word on when the first S7 will run on Wimbleware in passenger service?

From what I've heard, they are all supposed to be scrapped by July 2014. The train in the bay road at Putney Bridge would have either been a training run (albeit quite pointless as you can only go into that road in a C stock, which shall soon be gone), or more likely,if the line was disrupted south of Putney Bridge, a normal reversing move which they do if the line has problems, so that passengers can at least get to Putney Bridge for onward buses to Wimbledon. As for why they are all being scrapped, they have no need for them to act as Rail Adhesion Trains, and they don't have the "heritage" appeal of the A60 Stock. They would also need somewhere to put them, and given how full Acton is, as well as how full the other SSL depots are, there would need to be some significant funding to do it.

I really like these units why they have to scrap them all why not save on set at least London underground I'm not an overtly nostalgic sort of bloke but understood the required preservation of A Stock, if only to justify the hysteria shown on these very boards. The 38 stock is also a design classic and demanded heritage representation in the pantheon of London's Underground Railway. The C Stock, on the other hand, and in my humble opinion, are only now becoming fit for purpose. That purpose being to provide the drinks industry with vessels within which to encase their carbonated beverages. Of all the underground stock I've travelled on since memory permits (1969 onwards), the C Stock easily qualify as the most lamentable of the lot. Hot, sticky and unpleasant, even in the open air. I won't miss them at all. Best Rich

At the moment, the whole of the Wimbledon to Edgware Road service is operated by C stock, so that's your best bet if you want to see them.

Managed to travel on four 'C' stock trains between Edgware Rd and South Kensington yesterday late afternoon in a 35 minute time slot, travelling more or less station to station on each train. Only had to let one 'S' stock go which must have meant I had hit upon a luckly sequence, if you can call it that!
I have a respect for the work thse units have performed over the years but I cannot work up the same enthusiasm for them as I can for the A Stock. It looks like 5701 is on display in S E London so at least one vehicle looks like surviving. The pioneer unit 5501 was one of the units I travelled on yesterday.

5701 is being used as some sort of mechanical learning platform, that is to say, it is going to be heavily modded, so that students can learn about the electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems on a 44 tear old train design

Seriously though, I find some of these views fascinating. I speak, of course, without a railwayman's knowledge, but even though the I have been travelling on the underground for years, if it weren't for the line identification I would not be able to tell the A, C and D stocks apart. They all look the same to me!

Would have thought that the Museum has an obligation to preserve at least one car.
They did represent a step change in design.

I really don't get all the hatred for the C stock. OK, so they are not one of the classics, but they have their own characteristics which make them different to other trains. My fondest memories of them date back to their pre refurbished condition. I used to like the seating layout, it almost felt like a compartment stock with the 2 X 4 transverse seating between the big draught screens. Tney also made a terrific whining noise when driven at speed.
Very few of them about today on the H&C and Circle lines. Spent about 40 mins at Liverpool Street and it was all S stock. Saw 4 C's at various locations, excluding the Wimblewares.
