I notice that all the platforms at Gloucester Road now have a 'mind the gap' message every time a train appears in the platform. Why? The platforms are straight & there isn't a gap to mind! Metronet are (or should that be were) refurbishing the station, and the announcements sound exactly the same as at Bow Road - another Metronet triumph. Have they just installed it as a bog standard item without actually using any brain cells? Am I missing something?

Have they just installed it as a bog standard item without actually using any brain cells? East Acton and Bethnal Green are the same, so I would suspect it is a standard thing. East Acton is curved and I could just about understand it, but Bethnal Green...

It's just in case I happen to want to travel from that station. It's unlikely but it's nice to see such forward thinking.

My thoughts exactly ...and indeed if you condition passengers to mind a gap when there is not one, they will expect other such warnings to refer to a gap no one can see... when there may actually be one !!!

Perhaps they are referring to another gap, not at the station, but at a certain, now defunct Infraco?

True. My trainee pointed out this useless announcement to me. I hadn't even noticed it - I seem to have learned to screen out most of the endless guff on the station announcements!

And you wonder why the pax ask you questions about what is happening and where the train is going when this information is being given to them via the station PA?

If it's not about Gaps, the anno's drone on about Oyster Pre Pay and not leaving things unattended...
Not many people take the slightest notice...

Yes, noticed on Thursday that there are now announcements on the Picc. I presume its either because of H&S gone mad or someone managed to trip and made a complaint. Either way its stupid.

The Piccadilly Line Supplemment states that PA'a about "Minding the Gap" must be made at every station (well, I think it's every station, I'll have a look). There was probably a PTI incident a few years ago. On the Circle's Mind The Gaps means Between Trains ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ,..... Every 8 1/ 2 minutes!!!!!

If we are talking about gaps between trains, was at Kings Cross today around 11.30... Intervals varied wildly for the Piccy; when i arrived at Platform, first one on the board was for Rayners Lane, due in four mins... next one after that was EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! Platform was PACKED, except at the tailwall end, where I had 25ft of platform all to myself!

When the "Mind the Gap" announcements were spread across the system in the early 90s to almost any station with space for a mouse between train and platform, I suggested to Dennis Tunnicliffe, the then LU MD, that we would become the laughing stock as a result. He told me, "You think too much like a railwayman."

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.
