I'm just wondering if anyone has any information on the distribution of station entries throughout the day for particular LU stations (e.g 0830-0900 1,120 entries, 0900-0930 472 entries.....)? I've previously seen figures for total number of daily entries, but not the distribution. Thanks for any help.

I'd be interested to see the same figures - however since the start of the contract surrounding Oyster, gateline entry/ exit figures have become "secret". I can't even find up-to-date figures on LU's intranet (if anybody knows of a link, PM me please).
Could try a FOI request if the need warrants

Why are the entry/exit figures now secret?

The rumour being that it's commercially sensitive as gateline entry/ exits are how the companies behind Oyster are paid.

Theres a yearly figure bandied about sometimes, simply divide that by the number of days the service runs, and again by the number of hours the service runs for... That'll give you a mean 'average' per hour figure...

Thanks for the help. I can't be bothered with the FOI thing, as it was just an out of interest enquiry. However, whilst on this subject of keeping figures secret or not, have a look on this website for Santiago Metro, where they release daily figures for overcrowding levels for each line! Click on "densidad historica" for any of the lines in the "indicatores" box - www.metrosantiago.cl/

Perhaps a station audit would be much easier for the case of a non-LU station... such as Gainsborough Lea Road? IIRC, four passengers used it in the year March 2006 to March 2007! That poor ticket collector cum porter cum station assistant cum multi functional person must have been rushed off his feet! ;D
