I understand the ground frame is being taken out at the end of the month, can anyone confirm. I am aware that it has not been used for a while.

My copy of Underground News on the Northern Heights suggests that the T&W GF was installed by the LNER in 1926. Unless I am reading it wrongly! It is one x-over that I have never been over...as well as the other two extant ones! We didn't traverse it on the Northern Line railtour with 1959 Stock.

That will just leave East Putney GF and Old Oak Common GF? No GF at Old Oak Common. Do you mean the crossover at Royal Oak, this has no GF, the points are hand worked.

Royal Oak, sorry! That just leaves East Putney then as a GF unless there are any others that I am ignorant of... Is the RO x-over locked out in some way please?
We have GFs at Woolston and at Netley on the Southampton-Fareham line and whilst rarely-used are essential during engineering works.

Bonus question: is the Totteridge ground frame headed to Royal Oak or to Acton?

Bonus question: is the Totteridge ground frame headed to Royal Oak or to Acton? I remember using the crossover as a driver in the early 70s and later as a DM actually operating the GF. I suspect it won't be used at Royal Oak although I could be wrong, I know a few years ago some parts went to the GF at Morden Depot. Perhaps someone will have more details.

The crossover at Totteridge was used with regularity when the SB platform/track had the landslip for several weeks in 1982.

It being my 'local' frame, I'm sad to hear this. So, does anyone know how an LNER fan and local lad could obtain said frame when removed, for a happy retirement in the same area. I would be willing to collect it personally from Totteridge Station or relavent depot. Who would I need to contact about this?
Am happy to pay scrap price (plus any admin fees/or donation to charity) if necessary. Any info appreciated. PM if necessary.
I can't bear the idea of this small but significant bit of my local railway history being scrapped.
in anticipation Chesham412

Will it not be given to the LTM as was the North Weald semaphores?

presume everything's being ripped out this weekend? They've already taken the conductor rails off.
Shame not only from the historic perspective but also operationally. If the points were replaced and integrated into the new signalling system, the absolute MESS that occurred due to a signal failure between HB and T&W a couple of weeks ago could have been mildly improved by turning trains round at Totteridge. Indeed how about every surface station having a scissors cross over allowing failures to be isolated or engineering work to take place on one track, while allowing single line working to continue on the other.
Good idea? OK might cost a bit more but gives great operational flexibility.

Before you get too excited, are you absolutely sure that it's of LNER origin?
My sources indicate that it was put in as part of the New Works plan, and sadly in and of itself is of no great historical significance, apart from being at Totteridge.
Looking at photographs, I think it is a standard (hahahahahaha!) Tyer's ground frame; possibly a version of an RSCo type frame. It certainly isn't an LNE standard GF.
However I will add that any suggestion of 'standard' GF is a bit peculiar given the period of construction, can be a bit of a minefield.
