3) I see nothing wrong with it. But pax don't like their trains going to somewhere the map says it won't, i.e. Districts during engineering works going up to Edgware Road. Assuming the Wimbleware line replaces the District Earl's Court - Edgware Road, that is. If the Wimbleware was shown as a separate line, and engineering works meant that all trains from Wimbledon were going to Edgware Road then you'd just say the District Line is suspended between Earl's Court and Wimbledon and call all the trains Wimblewares. Trains already go to different places during engineering and other works, e.g. several times recently the H&C has gone to Aldgate which the map says can't be done. Equally the DLR has run Bank-Stratford via Bow Church and Woolwich Arsenal to Canary Wharf services that both the generic tube map and the DLR's route finder says isn't possible (the route finder also says that Beckton services can't run to Bank but they will during the Olympics, and do regularly during engineering works or disruption). Passengers cope. Passengers coped with the Circle Line going to Hammersmith during the t-cup trials, despite the map showing it didn't go anywhere near. Circles and H&Cs regularly got changed from one to the other during disruption (I don't know if they still do) and passengers coped. As for District Line trains going to HSK, you'd still show that bit as the District Line, albeit with a limited service if necessary. Whether it should be shown as a separate line or not, those aren't reasons why it cannot or should not be done.

But why not do that with the circle line? Why not have it as just the H&C line, with a split at liverpool street? Why is it distinct? And whatever the reason is, why can't that be applied to the Wimbleware route? Why is H&C / Circle taking different routes at Liverpool Street, with one going to Barking, and the other to Edware Road (via Victoria), any different from the Wimbledon branch taking different routes at Earls court, with one going to Barking, and the other to Edware Road? Why is the H&C treated as different from the Circle, on the maps, on the plans, in publicity, but the Wimbleware not distinct from the district line to wimbledon? On that old map, with the Earls Court split, why can't the edware road branch be in a different colour, with a parallel line down to Wimbledon - in the style of the circle vs H&C going to Hammersmith. Please note the correct spelling of Edgware Road !!! Your arguments are somewhat specious. The principle reasons for not artificially manufacturing this Wimpleware line per the changes you suggest would be. 1. cost. Resigning everything is very expensive. 2. S Stock. There is no reason to assume trains for the Edgware Road branch will originate from Wimbledon (or Olympia as some now do). 3. Why Bother. It is difficult to see that there would be any gain from doing so! 4. You just add to issues when such rebranded trains then get sent (as they are daily) to Mansion House and Olympia and sometimes to places such as Richmond, Ealing and Barking. 5. If your logic were to be applied then every possible route for every line should have a different name. So Upminster- Richmond trains should be a different line name against Upminster to Ealing Broadway trains and again Upminster to Wimbledon trains... It is quite possible that in the fullness of time such variants will need to gain route numbers, but not yet. The close relationship of the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines frequently sees them combined internally as the C&H (Circle and Hammersmith) ie. with a trend towards making them a single entity rather than splitting them further. With so many options and changes potentially ahead of us, maintaining the status quo seems to be the most prudent and cost efficient course, with only minor tweaks as required, as it seems to be well understood by the travelling public, until such times as we see exactly how things will pan out with S Stock, resignalling and ATO.

2. S Stock. There is no reason to assume trains for the Edgware Road branch will originate from Wimbledon (or Olympia as some now do). Indeed, I suppose that's one of the advantages of a common stock set. You can send them anywhere if you really want to.

For example, Wimbledon-Earls Court-Tower Hill-Moorgate-Baker St-Harrow on the Hill-Rickmansworth-Chesham?

I'd be surprised at that service as you have issues relating to driver route knowledge, journey length, propagation of delays, etc. Given that when it comes to infrastructure LU's priority over the last quite a few years has been segregation (for simplicity and reduced maintenance, etc) over flexibility (alternatives in times of disruption and special events, etc.) (witness the removal of crossovers in several locations) I'd be surprised if the services being run when S stock rollout is complete are very different to what we see today. I remember a thread on here a couple of years ago discussing District drivers being route trained over the north side of the Circle. From memory the feeling at that time was that the only likely change would be training east-end drivers on HSK to Edgware Road (most of whom don't currently do any C stock workings). Edit: Either I can't find the thread in question or I've conflated a few. Part of what I remember is in this post and the one it quotes; and some is in this thread. I suspect the rest may be in one of the other many threads about either S stock introduction or the change in the Circle line route.

When we are supreme rulers of the un-i-verse we will not need rails, we will not need stairs, we will not need esc-a-lat-ors. We will reinstate all the old lifts in the system. Ex terminate!

Hmm. Perhaps the program to install MIP lifts accross the system isn't for the benefit of the disabled of London but a ploy by shady people behind the scenes to make it easier for the Dalek invasion to succeed. Indeed the plan to remove drivers would fit in with this theory by removing the hinderance to the invasion that human drivers would provide. Railtechnician and his fellow dedicated engineering staff would be there within minutes with sonic screwdrivers and other kit carted up and down stopped escalators to back up their train-bourne collagues in defending this great metropolis from alien invasion, but once they've been privatised they can't do anything that isn't in the contract and if I had a house I'd stake (sp?) it on Dalek invasion not appearing once in any of the volumous reams of paperwork associated with the PPP contracts nor the TfL buyouts. It doesn't end there, oh no! Just look at the S stock. The old stocks had to go because no Dalek could ever get through those interconnecting doors so they'd need 8 per train, but with those nice wide gangways just one or two could subdue even the most densely packed bunch of commuters. I've yet to work out how the 09 stocks fit the plan (or maybe they were a rare victory for the planetary defence forces - no self respecting Dalek would be seen dead with sensitive egdes) but the EVOstuck, as those bastions of human dignity Ceiling Cat and Auxy have christened it, has all the hallmarks of out new Dalek overlords' doing. Walk through cars, smaller gaps between train and platform, automatic driverless operation - how could I not have seen it before!? I'm presently sat on a Jubilee Line train, and it really isn't far from 'This train terminates here' to 'Exterminate'... Gentlemen and Ladies, in the name of our fearless but sadly departed leader District Dave, I call upon you to stand firm (but not in the doorways or on the left hand side of escalators) in your defence of the Human way of life in London! We will together prevent any takover of our beroundelled transportation network. We shall fight them in London Fields,
we will fight them on Carshalton Beaches. We will never give in, we shall never surrender! Under the guise of a trip to see some models in Acton there will be a stategy meeting on one Saturday this month. See other thread for details. byo custard.

Concidering the recent 'going-round-in-circles' (pardon pun!) and the way off thread silliness, I am locking this thread.
