Not specifically 'Met', but was thinking more along the lines of 18 working tubes per car being needlessly thrown away or recycled when they could be reused; granted though 110v makes them less useful in this country.
I can't imagine per unit they cost much to order for an organisation like TfL, but 18 per car, 448 cars... just seems like an awful waste.

5014 has a rack missing on the 2+2 side behind the cab, is this a theft or was it damaged maybe?

As some of you know, I've wanted one of these for AGES. I've just had a promotion at work and also just bought a house; so I now have somewhere to put one. I has been despatched and is currently sat in a depot in Manchester awaiting delivery....

I was another person who decided to part with their hard-earned - mine arrived today, and because I didn't want to see Syd without Eddie, I went for both Little and Large (I realise that this joke is several decades out of date!) - yes, I really do need my head looking at!
I liked the little luggage-style tags that were attached to them - good theming! I was surprised at the number of "battle scars" that they've accumulated, however - just shows that they have actually seen use!
The next challenge...attempt to attach said luggage racks to the wall without becoming a candidate for a future episode of "You've Been Framed"!

They are so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so OVERPRICED! I bet you in a few years (or maybe less) you can pick one up on Ebay for half the price lol! ;D ;D Good luck at putting them up though!

i was always to busy looking out of a window on a suitably positioned seat to take any notice of these racks. But where did you put your luggage/hang your umbrella whilst you were admiring the view? My rack appears to be stuck at a depot in Manchester, and my mortgage application paper work also appears to be similarly stuck in Stockport; I wonder if the two are connected somehow? Could it be there is someone else out there determined to have a luggage rack in the hallway of their new metro-land era house?

Dying to get it up in the hallway, but I too shall try not to collapse the entire wall doing it. I went for a large one so I reckon it'll be a two person job...

not forgetting my bowler hat they are really a niche item, someone who doesn't appreciate the significance would probably just throw them away.the only ones that would carry a slight premium would possibly be those from 5000 if that happens,i hope it doesn't.

I have now installed one of my two expensive purchases to the wall (amazingly, it hasn't tried to fall off yet, despite my complete ineptitude to DIY and the fact that our internal walls would be stronger if they were made out of paper!); pictures have been uploaded and are available to view at: www.streetlightonline.co.uk/Tube/AStocksRacks.htm, should anyone be interested! For installing the rack, I used eight red Rawlplug Unos to gain a fixing, and 5mm x 30mm (No. 10 1.25'' in old money) countersunk slotted wood screws - as I say, this seems to do the trick!

According to the website they attempted to deliver mine yesterday; I was out [at work]. Unfortunately they don't appear to have left a card to enable me to claim my rack, so now I don't know where it is [sad face].

Looking great, im thinking of asking my parents for a small one for my 16th birthday Loving the Met Moquette headboard! No doubt a few would be heading your way if your first Lottery ticket turned out to be a winner! Yeah, the new headboard is the result of my room receiving a "refresh" (can't say "refurbishment"!) and as the previous one dated from 1991 and looked decidedly past its best, I decided to invest in a replacement! Weirdly, the company that produces the furniture on behalf of the LTM is based in Nottinghamshire, so the delivery driver didn't have far to travel to drop this off! According to the website they attempted to deliver mine yesterday; I was out [at work]. Unfortunately they don't appear to have left a card to enable me to claim my rack, so now I don't know where it is [sad face]. Odd - they left a card for me but this was just to tell me that they'd left the boxes in the back garden - not that I could exactly miss two large boxes that were covered in Met-coloured tape! Fingers crossed it turns up!

Fingers crossed it turns up! I gently stroked one of the boxes in the depot earlier today, I think I'll ring and chase it up on Monday.

With a bit of help from someone with a drill I've finally got mine up. I also painted the wall light grey to complement the colour. Not the best photo as there wasn't a lot of light. Now all I need to do is to think of something to actually go on top of the shelf Btw, it is actually straight, even if it doesn't look it on the photo

Right, I now have a house (so somewhere to put my rack) and a drill (with which to erect my rack); any hints on how to do it. Especially considering the rear of the brackets is curved to match the A-Stock rather than my flat walls.

I can't believe you didn't ask me first! Yes, it was easy. I put the rack where I wanted it and checked it with a spirit level. Then I put marks on the wall through the screw holes. The school caretaker (!) then came round and drilled eight holes in the wall. In to those he knocked some yellow plugs to give the screws some grip. In went the matching screws and voilĂ - Bob's your uncle. Even as a fairly passive bystander it was pretty easy

I meant to ask you at the weekend, but forgot. I blame the Bombay. How did you compensate for the curvature, as you don't appear to use the cross-batten that mrfs42 suggests?

How about relocating the pot plant and put a small suitcase, briefcase or bag to give it the final correct look to compliment your coats, scarf and that fine gentleman's umbrella.

Finally, my rack is up on the wall: Held up with inch-and-a-half N o10 screws and brown Rawl plugs (other brands are available). Conservationists look away now: Carefully grasping the brackets in a vice allowed the previously curved tips to be pulled back to give a flat base to go against the [ahem] flat-ish wall, thus eliminating the need for a cross-brace or manufacturing an adaptor plate. The lower screws were a little difficult to get in as the actual shelf section of the rack prevented access with the electric screw-driver, managed it with a flexible drive though. Now all I need is a bowler hat to complete the look.

I can confirm that Christmas has not yet arrived on the luggage racks in the south Did they sell out at the LTM in the end or are they still flogging them in the shop?

They are back in stock! My misses got an email the other day. She was going to get me one as a wedding present(!!) but let the cat out of the bag in error so I got one at Acton (raw) a few months back.
