I noticed the other day that the platform starter at Drayton Park will only clear when the train has changed current collection mode. Is this something to do with the centre rail, which can be seen in this picture? Thank you.

I think you're right there.
There is a similar arrangement at Harrow on the Hill platform 2 (S/B- Up) , with I think a separate red light, which extinguishes if the train present is not collecting traction current

To prevent an Electric train attempting to proceed towards Marylebone from Platform 2. Platform 2, and the two tracks North of, are electrified for emergency reversals.

yes, I remember that Tom. Got a piccy somewhere! Chiltern Railways weren't too happy about it blocking up thier route to Marylebone!

I should have said , in Reply #3 - "The arrangement, if provided, would prevent - - - -" Alas, I have not been to HH for some time.
From subsequent replies it seems as though the arrangement would have been useful.

Is the 'fourth rail' visible at Drayton Park there to act as an earth return rather than left over from LT days?
