All the passenger walking routes are being changed on Sunday 28th.BTW,noticed that there is a new stairway just past the gateline 1/2 way down the H & C platforms, looks like it goes to the new ticket hall under the original St Pancras station.

Noticed that myself last night. I wonder if it will be added to or if that's it. It is after all, only a third of the width of the main stairway that currently leads you down to the platform level. Depending on its purpose, could get a bit cramped in rush-hour.
They were also adding the finishing touches to the new entrance that currently sits behind the temporary ticket offices.

I walked through KX on the way back from St Pancras this evening and they were doing a 'meet the manager' event to publicise the next phase. I had a chat with the C&H General Manager, he was out meeting customers and promoting the new features. The new H&C/Circle/Met link will be open from tomorrow as well as the new staircase and lifts at the top of the Picc/Vic booking hall.

Will this finally allow interchange from SSL to tube without having to go through both sets of ticket gates?
The arrangements on the SSL platforms have always given me the impression of being something temporary that ended up existing longer than expected. Just like the excuse for a concourse in the mainline station.

I think so yes. The station will be much more user friendly when everything is finally finished. Don't know about you guys but I quite like the finish too, it looks sleek! Thinking about it, I'm not sure if he said the walkways are opening tomorrow or this weekend? They had cakes and to be honest I was edging towards them whilst still talking!

I had a chat with the C&H General Manager Should have gone myself, as I've forgotten who he is. Double-edged sword as we are happy he doesn't keep popping in, but also feel he could do more to find out who we are - we are running his railway after all. Sorry but you never know he might visit here and get the message... It didn't appear to be any different tonight when I came through. But then I don't normally linger around that area after dark (despite the rumours). I also only dive direct from street level to the sub-surface platforms.

The sub-surface platforms are looking quite bright and smart after their makeover.

IMHO he is one of the good guys, I'm not just saying it either. If I thought he was poor I would say so, I'm at the stage in my career now where I am past treading carefully! I have always found him to be honest and approachable and he has come up through the grades (albeit on the buses). In his early days as GM he made a real effort to get out and meet everyone too, obviously he can't do that all the time as he must be busy. Mind you, as you said you don't really want senior guvnor's around all the time anyway!

I am hoping that the link from the C&H/Met to the main booking hall will be easier too. It has been a long hike during the building work.

When I 'met the manager' the other day there were staff in the new operations room (to the right of the new ticket office) but it wasn't up and running at that point. It will be nice to see the 'temporary' operations room closed, it has been there since 1987! ;D

The new H&C/Circle/Met link will be open from tomorrow as well as the new staircase and lifts at the top of the Picc/Vic booking hall. The ops room is due to be commissioned tonight as well. I was involved with the designs for the signalling equipment which is to be moved, and was supposed to be attending the changeover tonight but I ended up booking a weekend in Stockholm at the same time as the changeover. Spoke to one of the commissioning team tonight though - I'm hoping it goes well. (Must also put my phone on silent so I get an undisturbed night's sleep!) ;D

Yes, the plaque will be returned. I think that there is a notice in the booking hall adjacent to the Vic escalators to that effect.

I also like the new design of ticket gates, with the oyster reader at the front - makes it so much easier. Wonderful to hear that the plaque is going to be put back where it belongs.

On passing through there yesterday, I was treated to a reminder of what our infrequent customers feel. I actually got lost I left work (a bit tight for time) intending to catch my NR train at King's Cross. However, after boarding the wrong part of the train for the new exit, and then after ending up in a completely different part of the station, I missed said NR train. It is certainly amazing what they've created behind those hoardings all these months.

Don't like the very abrupt male voice that now announces service disruptions, also on the O/R platform the way out sign is directly behind the DMI and is very hard to see from the front of the train when you get off.

That voice turns mundane problems into something resembling an advert for a huge Hollywood blockbuster.
As for the way out on the Outer, I'm sure someone keeps moving it by a few feet each day. There hasn't been a single day where I've arrived on a train and stopped facing the exit. I've tried rear car on C-stock, 6th Car on A-stock, this door, that door. Still can't get it spot on ;D

I noticed today the far end of the western ticket hall has been blocked off,is this due to 7/7 precautions,or something more permanent.

I think the arches will take you to the Eurostar and MML platforms,if you look closely at one of the signs there you can make out a covered up Eurostar logo.

You're right, all the barriers were gone this morning and the plaque was on the wall opposite and slightly to the left of the gateline as you come out of the H&C platforms.

As proof that things are still evolving at Kings Cross, here is the same sign photographed on the 31st of May and the 27th of July: A couple of days after this part of the station opened, there were no arrows on the sign at all!

I was there a couple of days after the new ticket hall and was a bit lost, I just followed the crowd, as well consulting the os map and compass.
