Does anyone know if this station is due for refurbishment? The lighting on the platforms on the Central side is very dull.

While on the subject, Lancaster Gate closes in June. I hope the original CLR tiles are retained.

Yeah, so do I; just look at Chalk Farm; talk about half-hearted refurb! And Swissy Cheese too...

I think for example bank would look so much niicer with the white tiles, ratherr than whatever is on the walls atm. The white tiles look great on the curved walls of the station.

Do we have to have refurbished stations looking the same as before. I personally would like to see some real modernisations with an artistic theme, not just like for like tiles replaced. Sure restore a few, but lets see some real designs like the ones which came out in the 1980s like Baker Street, Tottenham Court Road, Embankment, Charing Cross, Bank/Monument.

I'm not sure thats such a good idea on stations like Noting Hill Gate or the majority of the sub-surface central area for that matter. These stations are our heritage and out of respect for the pioneers who built them it's our duty to maintain their features and style. We have some amazing modern stations on the system (JLE) which represent our desire to be world class, so I say leave the old one's alone. Embankment, like a lot of the southern Circle line stations, suffered due to being enclosed as the city developed. What was originally a nice open air station ended up being a bit of an eyesore as it became roofed over, although I am not a fan of the 80's makeover it received either! It's not all bad though, look at Gloucester Road - it has only been enclosed in recent history but it has been done much more sympathetically.

I have to agree with 'prjb', I found an old photograph of Embankment, which had the lovely Yerkes tiling visible for all to see; I just want to go down and remove all that enamel panelling thats hiding the history.

I completely agree, i think a 5 year old child could do tha same job with the random couloured lines. The thing i hate most is white enamel (or black enamel as at Holborn) Why cover all the good stuff up with horrible rubbish.
Dont get me wrong i'm not averse to progress, Picadilly Circus bland boring but clean and the JLE is fantastic.

Baker is OK with the Sherlock Holmes thing, but BROWN? I'm not at all keen on the job at Tottenham Ct Rd - Eduardo Paolizzioli [who?]
I have no probs with progress; I mean, look at Canary Wharf - one of my favourite things is to come down into the station, when the sun shines directly through the opening at the top! [not fun going up tho...]

I think a good example of us getting it 'right' is Knightsbridge, it's modern and fresh but maintains a sense of heritage. It's a really nice looking station now.

Wandering off a bit... At Embankment W/B District, the platform is much narrower nearer the headwall. I hadn't realised until recently that behind the panels is a storage space created by partitioning off that bit of the platform. I saw a cleaner open the door and behind it was the original platform wall complete with Embankment roundel! Amazing what lurks behind locked doors...

At the north end of the n/b bakerloo, the current panel ends about 18" from the actual headwall. Behind this, is a short section or original tiling. I noticed this, just after I found the photo in question...
