Er..... I suppose this is a station related matter - but anyway.
Can you get a ticket whereby you start at Y, get a full ticket (whatever they call them this week) going through zones 1 - 6, and go to X?
(Y being Upminster and X being Shenfield)

As Upminster is a national rail station (operated by c2c), absolutely, yes. You may find that it's not available on the machines, as it is not a "logical" route (the machines will send you via Romford), but go to the ticket office and they'll sort you out.
If you was talking about an LUL operated station, you'd only be able to do it on a weekly or longer.

I saw the straight forward question above while looking for a place to give you all a laugh about a ticket I once asked for and many years ago.
I was in London on a Red Rover with my brother and a cousin and just for a laugh, I went into the underground station at 'The Strand' as I recall, but outside Charing cross anyway and asked for: 'A single to Trafalgar Square please?' I wondered why the guy behind the counter swore at me. I laugh now, but didn't at the time. I wonder if he ever forgave me? ;D

Strange as it may seem, I recall that there was actually a fare from Strand to Trafalgar Square, but what about the routes that you could theoretically travel by train before the stations were physically connected and for which, I think, there was no fare? Gloucester Road District to Piccadilly is one such example. Then there are instances such as Edgware Road; is there, or has there been, a fare between those two stations? There were also oddities such as the Earls Court return platform ticket and a Bank to Monument fare. Were there any others?

LOL! It's a shame that only the station you are starting your journey from is printed on the tickets these days, otherwise I might have felt like being daft and getting a ticket from Edgware Road to ...Edgware Road!

Had I still been in the ticket office, and you asked for one of the above - i'd most likely sell you a same zone single (or return if appropriate).................. Then tell all my colleauges about it and have a good laugh at your expense ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

One of LT's finest a good few summers ago was the 'how to get to Wimbledon by underground for the tennis' series put up in all stations.
SO: this appeared at South Wimbledon. Take a Northbound train via the Charing Cross branch. Alight at Charing Cross. Change to the District Line and take the first westbound train to Earl's Court. Remain on this platform and take a train for Wimbledon. Alight at Southfields and follow the signs to the All-England Tennis Club.
And no, it's not April 1st - it really did happen.
