Quick north to south reverses at Ricky can be just that. One driver brings the train in to either platform, another boards south end of train and away he goes.
I think that when the link is open Watford high street will be the busier station and that the line will be far more popular with people from outside Watford travelling to shop or work then with Watford residents.

The other option is to re-electrify and extend the bay at Ricky and use that for reversing trains.

I don't think there is room to extend the bay without demolishing most of the station. With current overrun limits the bay would stretch half way to Waitrose! Be good to measure it all out though

Be good to measure it all out though I looked at Google Maps and I was thinking of extending the bay towards London with the platform on the other side, in a similar fashion as has been done by Chiltern Railways at High Wycombe station with the former Marlow branch bay. I was wondering where this project has got to. The last on the TFL website was that the Public Enquiry report would be with the secretary of state in time for a decision on the project in the spring - which I guess means now or very shortly. I see that TFL have recently announced a contract with Taylor Woodrow to work up the actual design for the link so it seems they must be fairly confident of what the inspector has recommended and what the minister will decide.

There are several smaller subcontractors picking up contracts related to this all the time. I've not seen any physical works yet, though.

Today's article is on a subject I've been banging on about for a while - the patent unsuitability of 'Ascot Road' as a name for one of the new stations and its replacement by the historic name for the area, 'Cassio Bridge'. I wrote recently to Mayor Thornhill, the relevant cabinet and ward members at Herts CC and the relevant bods at TfL about this. Here's hoping... www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/10470655.Names_in_the_frame_for_new_rail_link_stations/ THC

How about Croxley Green and Watford West?

I hear you on Watford West, however the station on Ascot Road is well over the boundary into Watford. Cassio Bridge is more accurate historically and geographically than Croxley Green, which is over a mile away - and far nearer Croxley station in any case. Not that the LNWR bothered with such accuracy when they named their branch terminus, of course...

Two Bridges is generally what the area is known as. And Cassiobridge of course.

Two Bridges is generally what the area is known as. . Won't Two become Three as a result of the Croxley Link?

How about Croxley View? XF The primary school I attended, over 30 years ago, was on Croxley View. I remember watching the blue Class 501s trundling along back to Watford Junction at the bottom of the school field first thing in the morning - I think the last one went through at just after 9am. THC

Fantastic XF, that reminds me of the original wooden platform at Croxley Green. I used to take the train from CG to Watford West for Cubs on a Tuesday night - 3p priv single. I feel old now.

Happy now! THC

Cassiobridge sounds like a game you might play on a mobile phone or tablet Cassiobury Bridge I think sounds more complete and trumps the other name! XF

Both sound cumbersome. Why not just a straightforward Cassiobury?

Why not "New Croxley" - after all, it is the new Croxley link.

Or Croxley Business Park

Guess there's no pleasing everybody.
The current Watford Met station is on the Cassiobury estate so giving the Cassiobury name to the Ascot Road station, half a mile away, would be inaccurate (not that accuracy has ever stopped railway companies in naming stations!) Croxley Green Business Park (for that is its name) is a private estate and company so, unless they come up with hefty sponsorship, no dice. New Croxley? It's not even in old Croxley. Cassio Bridge is the historic name for the area and this move would ensure its return to common usage.

Cassiobridge is nice. Quite distinctive too so will help avoid Beatles-esque errors, where fans trek all the way to East London.
Any word from that public inquiry?

Indeed - it's well written and illustrated too. Thanks for posting. I had been meaning to make my first and possibly only visit to Watford Met as a pleasure trip ever since it became clear that it would close. Then a couple of months ago I had a business meeting in an office in the nearby business park. Result ! Had to go there anyhow and able to reclaim the ticket price on expenses !

How difficult is it to name a station. A station or two? Why don't the Watford Observer run a competition where the residents can vote on the names of the stations. Keep the local politicians out of this as it will take them years to make a bad choice.
I note from the article that the existing Watford Met could become single track then, as it is described as a siding!

Good old Watford Observer; no real surprise at the name Vicarage Road although but at least it has been chosen by the residents.
