A new in-house advert on the tube has been doing the rounds recently and I could help myself figure out whether a '96 stock train with blue handles ever existed, or it was a mock-up. I understand that the roundel on close inspection is Charing Cross, but does it alternatively seem to predict a forthcoming refresh for the Jubilee line? (500px height as per rule )

As a regular user of the said line, LUL's current policy of having yellow handles, the fact there are financial cutbacks and the fact the 96 stock are in a fairly good state, bit of photoshopping here methinks.

If they have a policy of using yellow handles, why is the policy there? and why does the 09 stock have blue handles? The picture is most likely photoshopped and thank god that Jubilee line doesn't have that colour scheme. Blue bars on Cyan panels( if that's the colour) are a no,no.

Maybe just Corporate Blue (via Photoshop) so it can be used anywhere?

Maybe they're trying to show a Picc or Vic line train but used the 96TS, because most people don't notice the details?

The policy is for those with poor eyesight - The theory being that the grab rails have to stand out against everything else. For the same reason that the front destinations are now in lower case using capitals as appropriate. As for the advert itself - Well generations have squeezed into the area around the doors for an easy exit, and I can't see any amount of expensive posters making the blindest bit of difference.

Around rush hour I have to be close to the doors. (also because my Tube journeys are fairly short and only in zone 1)

I hate moving down inside the cars, especially when travelling a short distance. People tut and groan when you then need to get back towards the doors.
Rock / hard place.

Yes, but this has the 'aqua' coloured panels missing Jardine. It's clearly photoshopped all round anyway.
96ts do not have controllable vents, 95s do! Don't see why they would add the tiny little control sliders in.
That said again they do have darkened panels behind the rails by the doors, and the outline of the inter-car door is also picked out.
Seems someone's made a hash-up of the two to me!

Talking of planned refresh - has anyone seen the 96TS set running around with new style plastic seats? I've heard there is one train out there fitted with new 'hard' seats for evaluation. Not sure what the unit numbers are.

Plastic seats? What happened to the good ol' moquette? Way more comfortable...

Something to do with eliminating the old spring through the seat cushion failure mode apparently! Somebody I work with said they travelled on it last week and almost needed to stand up to get the blood circulation flowing again!

Why don't they use foam for the padding? Is it because it would go flat quickly?

oh, so I shouldn't bother about sliders being on closed because we'll get ventilated anyway? Good.

Plastic seats? What happened to the good ol' moquette? Way more comfortable... Don't tell me that they've gone along with what the NYCTA had done long ago. There was and still is a simple reason why so many commuters desire a seat on the trains.

On the subject of posters, there's a print (poster) version with the yellow handrails. I'll see if I can take a closer look at it.

It only seems that on 96ts, the spring through cushion thing happens, never had it on a 95 or 73ts which we all know have very similiar seats

Anyone aware of it happening on any other stock though??
Would have thought its rare enough a failure for it to indicate that the cushion is knackered anyway. Terrible that, that something that could get broken eventually might.
Simply don't get it. There were very good reasons why sprung cushions were adopted in the first place and replaced hard seats, and why the trials on COCP stock weren't adopted either.
Its absolutely disgraceful that it's coming around again. The reasons why the tube became considered iconic and great are all slowly being dismantled, apart from the poxy roundle. Hate to be awkward, but I'd prefer a comfortable seat with a nice large window on a quality looking train but no roundle to the opposite :/
It seems every review that gets into the assembly transport meetings keep berrating the fact that LUL is engineering focused instead of custromer focused. I don't think thats true atall, its accountant focused and but clearly not enough for some.

I don't use the Jubilee very often but did have a spell to get to Neasden when the engineering blockade was on at South Jn.
I sank down into a nice springy seat and thought 'That's comfy' until we got going.
You (as in 'the management') need to sort out the vertical ride whether it be track, train or both.
Is it suspension problems?
Bouncing up and down. Several times over points/joints I bottomed out and it wasn't comfortable verging on painful.
With padded seats like the S stock it would be unbearable.
Tracking with them on the Chiltern line you can see them porpoising along.

The ride quality in my experience is actually worse than A stock, a train 35 years older than them

There are quite a few different seats on the underground now. Foam, Air & Foam, Springs and wires.
The springs protruding through the seat is a very serious matter, which is why we upped the inspections on them. The slightest tear and they are now replaced.
Foam or Foam with air is the best way to do it now, which is what the latter stocks are doing.
The ride quality on the A Stock is so bad because is has practically no suspension! The S Stock has considerably more. And a better bogie design at that too.
