Am I allowed to wait on the arrivals platform at Waterloo (where I can't board a train..)? I ask because the other day I got kicked off after being asked if I was waiting for someone, to which I replied "No, I'm watching the trains"
The CSA or whatever replied "No no, you can't watch the trains" So I left and went to watch the trains from the departures platform..
Friendly T/Op didn't seem to care that I was just jamming on the platform.

The only worry is that you might jump on a train at the last moment and sneak into the depot! (which is at every other terminal station with a siding/turnback loop ahead e.g. Kennington (although I believe pax ARE allowed in the Kennington loop, it's just not a good idea!) H+Wealdstone etc...)
Perhaps you should ask the LU station manager and they'll say yay or nay - then if anyone questions you, you have a reason to not budge!

If you did jump on at the last moment then hopefully whoever was closing up (normally a CSA for the back unit and the TOp for the front) would notice and remove you before the train went up 5 Road (or 6 and 7). If we did take a passenger into the sidings, past the shunt signal, that would count as a “carry over” and there would be severe spankings for all concerned. LU doesn’t have station managers, we have Station Supervisors at a given station, then a number of Duty Managers for the group and above them all the Group Station Manager. You could always ask the Super when you go there or you could write to the GSM for permission, not sure which group Waterloo is part of these days.

Yes, I saw T/Op doing the front two cars, watching the 2nd one so no-one leaped on, and walking back he can see if anyone is in the front car. CSA doing the back two, watching the 3rd one, be able to look in the 4th as it goes.
Best bet for even attempting to be carried over is the final car. Not that I say you should..!

I do wonder what would happen if someone in a wheelchair got on the train at Bank (easy enough with the travelators) and arrived at Waterloo to find the lift out of order? Would they be allowed to go via the depot to the departure platform and exit via the ramp?

I think they would call for assistance, them or the CSA.

I think there used be a step free route to [the W&C departure platform at] Waterloo via the former eurostar station - I can't recall There was - I used it a couple of times with a baby buggy They seem to have been building a lift on the arrivals platform at Waterloo, but no idea whether it was ever commissioned.

Departures has stairs and ramp, which will never brak, and arrivals has stairs and lift, which could break..

hmm - where the new step free goes to? cause fomer step free entrance is closed now so you have any photos posted? - its could be new entrance somewhere either from jubbiee line or northern line/bakerloo lines or from existing ticket halls (bank has no step free from waterloo to street - one is being built)

If you close up with someone still on board you then have to use the "butterfly" to get them off again and that takes time, which is why you check the cars are empty before you close up. If the CSA only checked the 4th car after the train was on the move it's unlikely they would be able to stop it going into the sidings. Result: spankings all round!
