They can't be driven from the offside as such, however they can be started from the offside in ATO. Also, the door controls for the offside are mounted underneath the offside droplight, and seeing as most platforms on the Victoria Line are on the right hand side facing the direction of travel, it's easier to sit on the offside of the cab instead of getting out of the chair at almost every station (god forbid ;D). That's the only reason I can think of anyway.

There is also an emergency brake located on the off side of the cab which the driver in the picture has his hand resting upon. I gather the 2009 Vic line stock will feature an off side seated driver reflecting the fact almost all the vic line stations feature the platform on the offside.

Thanks guys, So how do you start from the offside in ATO mode. The same as from the left seat. Start buttons and 420 code lights are provided on both sides.

so you can drive them from either side, its just the door buttons. Presumably radio/DVA equipment is not on both sides.

LU move customers from A to B, they used to do it via 'C'.

No, you can only drive them (manually) from the left hand side but you can start them in ATO from either side via two buttons (ATO Start buttons). The driver in the picture is sitting on the right and the train is in ATO.
