I think we're liable to assume that everyone has the same level of interest/knowledge as us. As someone once taught me... never... ever ASSUME... Cause it'll make an... ASS out of U and ME

I can see your point, as District services are self contained off-peak: Ealing-Tower Hill ]- Wimbledon-Upminster]- (these to be swapped from Dec.) Richmond-Upminster Wimbledon-Edgware Road I'm a bit late on this but is there any particular reason for swapping off-peak the Ealing and Wimbledon services to Upminster and Tower Hill? It's a welcome simplification.

I think it would be useful to identify District services via High St Ken differently from those via South Ken, I'm fairly sure that at Wimbledon you get "next City train" and "next Edgware Road train" indicated There is certainly codes as follows for Train Descriptions on the Wimbledon branch (through WARS), can't recall what appears on customer facing info though. City Edgware Road High Street Kensington Earl's Court Parsons Green

City is Monument, I suppose?

The "City" description is put up by Wimbledon SCC for anything going via Gloucester Road. As regards the public face, this would show as "City via Victoria" - getting converted to the correct LU description at Putney.

It's a welcome simplification. The current pattern was designed so that should a problem occur east of Tower Hill then services to Wimbledon and Turnham Green would still be maintained by other services. Also, Service Control preferred this pattern as each service went past a Depot for easy changeover purposes: Ealing-Tower Hill - Ealing Wimbledon-Upminster - Upminster Richmond-Upminster - Upminster Wimbledon-Edgware Road - Edgware Road (Hammersmith) Regretfully, this has been lost with the new pattern.

Could someone explain the importance of Turnham Green please?
With the comments above, and the Piccadilly Line stoppers, this is clearly a bigger traffic centre than is apparent to a non-Londoner like myself.
Thanks in advance

Thanks D-stock. I was familiar with the second reason and I suppose first also seems sensible. But does anyone know the reason for the change?
NeilWatson - The point I got from Dstock was the flexibility of sourcing trains for the two main branches west of Earls Court in the event of disruption in the east, rather than needing to serve Turnham Green specifically. Having said that Turnham Green is significant being the main station for Chiswick High St and is the last station before the Ealing and Richmond trains diverege. The Piccadilly stoppers are only at the start and close of business... despite some people's best attempts to change this (unnecessarily). That section of the District is busy, but there are at least 12 tph through Turnham Green (roughly the same as the Wimbledon branch). Plus there is the option of x-platform interchange at Hammersmith.

Maybe this already happens but surely it would make sense for (off peak)...
One Eastbound platform to be used for trains via South Kensington The other Eastbound platform to be used for trains via High Street Kensington One Westbound platform to be used for trains to Richmond and Ealing The other Westbound platform to be used for trains to Wimbledon and Olympia.
It would mean that passengers would know which platform they need to wait at (providing that there is good signage).

One Eastbound platform to be used for trains via South Kensington The other Eastbound platform to be used for trains via High Street Kensington Unfortunately it is not possible with the current track layout and service pattern, as Wimbledon - Edgware Road and Wimbledon-City trains have to both use Platform 2. There is no access from the Wimbledon direction to Platform 1.

Has the new service pattern on the District (Upminster - Ealing/Richmond, Wimbledon - Tower Hill/Edgware Rd) made any difference to reliability?
