Can anyone tell me why it was that when sitting in the motor car of one of these wonderful units, there would sometimes be "CLUNK" before the normal tick, tick of the PCM. Was this due to the driver moving the handle to Parralell straight away? When this happened, the train would always start with a lurch.
Thanks
David

If the train had terminated and was about to go in the oposite direction it would be the reversers throwing. They make a clunk the first time the Master Controller is turned.

I think you could have it there, Jim. What reminded me of this was watching a DVD of a programme called 'Subway', about the BTP on the tube; filmed some time ago. Anyway, in the clip I refer to, a 59 TS is reversed followin a 'one under'. Thanks Jim Dave

The five disk set has many long-forgotten Underground and railway documentaries, from the late 80s onwards. I've just looked to see if he is selling any more but he has nothing listed. I would suggest anyone who wants to buy the set (circa £20) to contact him through the 'community' section of eBay. His user name is culttvguy2. Although he is based in Las Vegas, postage is not expensive and they arrive fairly fast. H T H Dave

In a similar vein on the studio version of `Down
in the Tube Station at Midnight' by
The Jam , released in 1978 I think a tube train
can be heard twice . Any idea what
rolling stock it is ? My guess is that it is a 1938
but I stand to be corrected.

The cover of the single, for those interested, was photographed at Bond Street Westbound Central Line ;D ;D
