This one was caused I understand by some new track or points having an argument with a shoe beam leading to a shoe beam (or something at least) going through the saloon floor! The train has been at Ealing Broadway for a few days now if you want to look. I've been.

it basically smashed it way through 11b points and caused a lot of damage It's certainly not the first time that, that has happened, and I doubt it will be the last either. The last derailment that I attended was in the same place AFAIR, ripping up all the juice rails, snakes, boards etc in the process after a shoe got caught in a crossing (known to some as a frog) thereabouts.

Sounds nasty what happened, but I guess the RAIB will be going over this one with their usual selection of toothpicks and microscopes. Read the report in 19 months!

it basically smashed it way through 11b points and caused a lot of damage I presume 11b are still 4' points or has there been an upgrade? We used to wonder when 11a chairlocks were going to be replaced after the rest of the westbound track in the area had been relaid with flatbottom rail. I expect the eastbound is flatbottom these days too, have 12a 6' points been replaced?

Not a bad location to work at in the wee small hours in the winter. It all seems so long ago and it was 10+ years ago now.
