Today on the 1938 stock railtour I noticed the unrefurbished 72ts MKI at Northfields depot out in the yard. Was this there for maintenence from the branch and does anyone know what time its likely to move? Thanks

It's been there for ages! Ever since the 1938TS was put into Aldwych for the Blitz exhibition. Been sharing Road 14 with the Cravens stock, hence the TRT has been sharing Road 1 with the AIT.
It is due to move back to Aldwych soon apprently, but was outside at the weekend because the 1938TS unit was being stabled in its place in the shed.

Dan

Good, glad it still gets out and about. It probably can be considered a preserved unit. Hope it has a long life.

Is this unit officially preserved and kept safe or is there a risk it could be scrapped or left in open storage and vulnerable to damage? Are there any plans to transfer it to the Museum at any point, or to do tours like with the 38 stock and Sarah Siddons?

Are there any plans to.......................do tours like with the 38 stock and Sarah Siddons? I doubt if the Bakerloo commuters would be too impressed if there were "heritage" tours by the same type of superannuated stock they use for their daily commute............

I thought the 72ts was usually "stored" on the platform at Aldwych, so therefor not likely to be prone to damage?

Ah I see, doesnt the TRT live at Neasden?

It's home depot is Ruislip because it comes under TransPlant control, but it spends a lot of time stabled at Northfields because the on-board instrumentation is calibrated on the Heathrow Loop.

Why is it almost always stabled outside Neasden?

Why is it almost always stabled outside Neasden? it only stables there in between duties while testing on the Bakerloo/Jubilee (night?) and Metropolitan lines

Ohh, I got the impression it lived at Neasden due to that.

There is no spare room at Neasden at the moment, so as previously mentioned it is stabling between duties. It does give people a chance to see it more however.

Isn't this train stopped at the moment due to concerns about the tyre profile.

I understand that one wheelset is slightly out of tolerance (back to backs). This was picked up when the wheels were turned on the Northfields lathe, so it has been stuck there waiting for a resolution. As this train doesn't go anywhere it is pointless changing the wheelset out, so it is a case of making sure it is safe to transfer in Engineering Hours back to the Aldwych branch.
Shouldn't be too long now.

Dan

It's enjoying a bit of fresh air out of the sheds at Northfields today.

Certainly is something special; it is virtually as withdrawn on the inside. Adverts for £39 holidays in Romania, wood floors, the old style grab handles, guards panel etc. A few fragments of broken glass but I would guess that is a result of the training sessions at Aldwych.

Dan

Just a shame that some wood effect laminate has been put on some panels

Maybe they should paste Victoria Line Diagrams on the ventilation flaps, to re-create that 1967 stock effect!!! (Well the 1972 and 1967 stock were virtually identical, just minus the autodriver boxes - indeed some 1972 cars ran on the Victoria - they were designed with this in mind)...

It just left Northfields Depot about five minutes ago for those who are interested. As to where it's going I have no idea. Was strange to hear it's (different to the usual 73's) whistle!

They moved it a few weeks ago into the sheds and it was on the same road as the Cravens heritage train for a while. It'll be weird not seeing it around – I've been in and out of Northfields like a yo-yo the last couple of months, had all that time to get a decent picture of it, but in the end I could only get a rubbish one in passing... www.flickr.com/photos/version-3-point-1/6009392614/
