I was admiring the area beneath the solebar on an A stock a few days ago and noticed a large, transformer-shaped electric doohickey mounted between the B and C axles on the DM. It had electric windings like a transformer and was positioned equidistantly between both axles.
IIRC, towerman stated that the resistances on an A stock were a stonking big pile of metal and other gubbins, instead of a smaller thingy that someone else (whose name I've forgotten) was envisioning. Is that what this thing is?

Ah!
Look towards the rear of the train, i.e. the right side of the photo. The big metal frame with the dark red object inside is what I'm asking about.
