You could make a case for the 1996's 7th cars to be a refurbishment, but I don't think many people would agree with you.

95 and 96ts, are they refurbished? The "refurbishment" they received was new moquette seat covers.

I believe the comment about eliminating 92 stock does have some basis in fact.
I remember this.
The was certainly something going around maybe 7-8-9 years ago that completely replacing them was on the table at least as an idea. It might even have made it into something like Modern Railways Informed Sources. Thinking about this it might have been a BCV idea just before Metronet BCV in the days when all was to be rosy and lots of ideas about who owns and leases tube stock. Or it might have been an PU specification or a bidder proposal in the PPP tendering process. ISTR it was in rumour form around the time of the Chancery Lane bogie incident which was [?]2003[?] which puts it in the same place on the timeline as Metronet starting up. All this predate me in the underground industry (five years now) and was long dead by the time I joined. nevertheless, it was an idea seriously floated around industry in the early years of this century.

Has anyone thought of buying a set of Kawasaki bogies in order to restore a 1992 train in preservation ?

The W&C stock still has them, don't they?
The motors were proposed to be replaced at one point. What with an interior refurbishment due, poor build quality in general, new bogies and new motors mooted, it wouldnt be suprising if there were a group of people within TfL who were of the opinion 'to hell with it'. The centrals allocation of stock is very tight aswell; in terms of numbers IIRC it wasn't even a straight replacement for the number of cars of 62/60 stock beforehand.

One other point, the refurbishment programme of stocks started in 1989, which is way before the 1992 stock was delivered. It'd be unfair to say they are the last unrefurbished stock going, because they'd be newer than some of the refurbs about. And then look at how they've aged...

W&c bogies are being replaced with the same Siemens bogies as the central line. Only real difference is the pipe work for the brake actuators

"Shiny wheel sets" doesn't sound as funny.

The extra cars for 1996 stock 7 car project were new build, not refurbishment I know that. My comment was that adding the 7th car could be considered "refurbishing" the train the 7th car was inserted into. A very big stretch of the definition of "refurbishing" as I said.
