082 and 109 were ex-Highgate after a derailment there and are still O/O/S at Stratford Market depot to be repaired. Won't be around for a while. Meanwhile 084 has been O/O/S since April 2008. Return to service is expected within a couple of months - maybe.

Highgate? The Jub goes nowhere near there! There is a Tube Lines test track at Highgate depot and Jubilee line trains have been taken to Highgate for TBTC testing. one train is there now.

96084 - robbed for spare parts to keep others going. Most depots have (at least) one long-term-stopped unit (or their "Christmas Tree" as it's often called).
Incidentally, this was the reason that A60 unit 5036-6036-6037-5037 was 'stopped' on 19/7/77. 6036 never carried passengers again and is the Met's Sandite car, while 5036-6037-5037 were eventually reinstated and became (respectively) 5116-6117-5117 in 1992. 6116 in that unit is original.
** Admins - please move this last para to a new/different thread if you think appropriate. **

I'm surprised that spares are hard to come by so early in the stocks life. A few extra trains/cars were built 5 years ago, so I would have thought that a float of equipment could have been formed.

Highgate? How do they get there?
I can only think they would go to the Met north of Baker Street -> Circle/H+C -> District -> Picc -> Northern, which is an incredibly long way!
Is there another rail connection or am I totally wrong in thinking they go via the Northern line?

From what I recall, the units are split into a 3 and 4 car, and each bit is propelled by a pair of battery locos from Stratford to Ruislip, then Ruislip to Highgate over a series of nights.
They can't run as a complete unit under normal power as I believe the train shuts down with interference from signalling, or is that the other way around, signalling shuts down due to interference from the 96 stock traction packs?

Don't think there's any reason why they couldn't go on the Northern under power though, there's similar on the 95ts.
It would be signalling being piddled with by the aux converters.

Why is that these 'modern' stocks are very restricted?

Stock does seem to be much more line-specific these days, so I guess that transfers during engineering hours, between battery locos, is the only feasible way of getting units to 'odd' places.

I mean when it says all stock is cleared north of Finchley on the Met, this surely cant mean 95/96 stock and also 09 stock (if you somehow get that onto tripcocks)

The auxilliary converters on stocks are usually only cleared for the lines on which they work which is what makes it difficult. Interferance as mentioned with signalling. What I don't understand is why one standard type wasn't decided upon when the majority of stocks were refurbished, as before there seem to have been far less restrictions. Off topic though.

That's because it was provided by motor generators(alternators) before!

Bumping this thread ! - 96084 seen moving in SMD yard for the first time in months (years?). Is it making a comeback for the new timetable (increased requirement for trains?)

96084 released for service 9/6/11. 96082 released for service 14/6/11.
96109 still 'stopped' (derailment) as far as I know.
