Apparently 8X09 is running this wednesday night/thursday morning so another S8 is nigh. What's the delivery route? Thanks!

How does S stock know what the speed limit is on a certain section to slow it down?

How does S stock know what the speed limit is on a certain section to slow it down? I don't think it does, they run on tripcock signalling...

When is the next S Stock likely to be introduced? It's been a long time since the last one!

No idea but prjb did warn us this was an intentional gap before series deliveries begin

It will enforce the overall 60mph limit for the train, not the current speed limit.

No idea but prjb did warn us this was an intentional gap before series deliveries begin Intentional only in the sense that the railway between Baker St and Aldgate isn't ready for S8 stock yet and therefore no more trains (perhaps space for 1 unit?) can arrive on the railway until then! I believe there are some other sights on the railway that may require further tweaks for S8 to be able to access every part of them, Rickmansworth certainly has outstanding works to be completed in the sidings, which I presume relate to S8 in some (or all) way?

8X09 ran again yesterday, 30th March 2011, with 20304/5/2/1 (not necessarily in that order!) plus an S7 set, possibly 21001/2. However, it seems the train came to grief at Princes Risborough during the reversal there, apparently brake problems on one of the locos. The whole train was moved onto the remains of the Thame branch until the problem could be sorted out and the train rescued, so it may now be running very soon some 24 hours late... A few photos of the train on the Thame branch now on my new site (replacement for my now dead Fotopic site...), not brilliant shots as this section of track is very difficult to get any shots on! Pics start here: plumbloco.smugmug.com/Trains/PlumbLoco/16190333_EXCT2#1235074139_WwbGT-A-LBfollowed by a couple more. Cheers, Geoff

It looks like the S Stock missed it's target of being able to run everywhere on the Met "by end-March" ?

Damn, if I got home earlier / had checked this on the way home, I'd have thought about heading out to PR to see it!
Dstock: I thought prjb / Met Control had said that it was expected to miss it due to a couple of events (something tells me the gapping at Uxbridge etc.) but I can't remember where I read it!

What's a few days between friends ;D ;D ;D (Although, to be pedantic, it has been able to run everywhere on the Met for some weeks now, just not in revenue earning service. It has been to Aldgate many times over now.)

It looks like the S Stock missed it's target of being able to run everywhere on the Met "by end-March" ? The milestone for 31/03/11 was to have the entire Met line enabled for 'S' Stock operation. The milestone was met on time and appropriate authority/certification for the fleet to operate Aldgate to all destinations north was achieved. The fact we have chosen not to run a train down there during traffic hours yet (even though we can) is irrelevant to the actual milestone. We have chosen a 'soft' launch into the city area at a time that is considered operationally appropriate. In plain English, we can run down there but chose not to launch straight away and not during the peak or on weekdays.

The non operation to Aldgate was not a blocker for more train deliveries. A series of mods on the trains (for various different things) was scheduled and we chose to wait until those mod's were complete before more trains were delivered. Also there are some limitations in terms of numbers of trains we can actually run in service (again for various reasons) which we wanted clear before we accepted more trains. There are other reasons too, which aren't a secret but just too n umerous and mundane to list! Ricky sidings has been fully enabled for a little while now but again this wasn't a blocker to deliveries because we have no plans to stable there other than in an emergency and the majority of the sidings have been enabled for a very long time now (before Christmas).

So why am I not commissioning what have been described as "M3 critical" mods until next Sunday? If they were M3 critical then they would have been done already. The mod's you are commissioning on Sunday are more about SPAD mitigation and service performance then anything else. For those scratching there heads, M3 is 'Milestone 3' - The entire Met line enabled.

So why am I not commissioning what have been described as "M3 critical" mods until next Sunday? What mods would this be ? It's an alteration to the way MB14 and MB140 in Baker St Platform 3 operate - including the fix to a computer problem that has existed since 1987. PRJB is quite right that it is SPAD Mitigation, which I knew all along (it says so on the front of the design), but that's not what I've been told by other people...
