They ran from their introduction late 1997 to Xmas 1998 when the final 1983 stock was withdrawn until the JLE was openned (in 1999?) ie they didn't use it for long. Also they were all 6 cars in those days.

Err, think there was the odd shut down but I think they built a step plate junction near Green Park and did much of it under running conditions. It was a fair few years ago though....

Also they were all 6 cars in those days. Not all units of 96 stock worked to Charing Cross in service, a handful of units didn't enter service until after the JLE opened. Also until the Westminster - Green Park section was ready, the fleet was effectively split into two fleets, although in the final weeks before the final section was opened they became unified.

The WTT I have here shows a Stratford to North Greenwich shuttle- titled Jubilee Line (Extension) number 1. 28th feb 99 onwards.
Booked to use alternate platforms at Stratford, (13 and 14) then all reversing at NOG platform 2, 5 and a half mins reversing time, then back to the same platform it left from at Stratford.

The following units entered service initially in isolation on "the Extension":
013+014, 015+016, 017+018, 041+042, 047+048, 051+052, 037+038, 115+116, 075+076 and 100.
The following entered service after the JLE was opened: 053, 064, 099, 103 and 104. Unit 104 was the very last to enter service on 31.07.01.
All other units would have operated at some time to Charing Cross.
Of course, when the link at Green Park was properly available, some of the trains at Neasden would have been moved to Stratford Market in readiness for stage II (Stratford - Waterloo), for which the 'isolated' JLE trains would have been insufficient, and stage III (through service).

A tube map from May 1999 shows the Jubilee was split between Charing X-Stanmore, and North Greenwich-Stratford at one point. Might of been a little pointless, as the Dome only opened in 2000 (well, the tube map gives that impression, as it says 'North Greenwich for the Dome in 2000')
Also, when the full service to Stratford starting operating, was the Charing Cross branch immidiatly closed, or did they still operate there for a short time? Probably isn't true, but I think I may of seen or heard this somewhere.

No I think the branch to Charing Cross closed the day the extension opened.

The Waterloo - Stratford shuttle was only around because westminister took long because it was so complicated. I think, so dont hold me to account.

No I think the branch to Charing Cross closed the day the extension opened. You remember correctly. And as an aside (and it's not a dig at anybody) isn't it weird how people's memory is already becoming hazy about things that happened in relatively recent times? There's a few threads like it, here and there. Let's hope the historians have it documented right for posterity.

The Waterloo - Stratford service ended with a through service beginning on 20.11.99.
Westminster JLE station didn't open until 22.12.99.
1996 Stock moves to Stratford were initially by road and when the connection at Green Park Junction became available (not signalled to start with) moves were able to take place in a 'possession' with trains hauled by Schöma diesels. When trial Ops stage II began, trains were able to be transferred as and when required. The last recorded moves with Schömas was on 23.08.99 with 96079+96080 NEA-SMD and 96060+96059 SMD-NEA.

Further to jswallow's comment, he is exactly right, although some of LU's own records often leave much to be desired. There was much joy and jubilation when the 1996 Stock entered service. Their press notices issued at their 'launch' on Tuesday 6 January 1998 proclaimed this to be their first day in service. It was not. It was a media 'launch'.
96030+96025 first carried passengers on 24 December 1997 and this was their first day in service. The same train was used on 6 January.
