I have several photos of the depot environment and can take some of the Siemens bogies if you wish although I'm not at work for a while now. How do I attach photos to a thread because it didn't work when I tried before. Thanks. A quick and easy way for the occasional picture as favoured by Japanese schoolgirls is to use.......... tinypic.com/.........Just click on the link and follow the easy instructions. Then copy and paste whatever option you want to post the pic - either embed within the text or as a link itself -..........*Direct Link For Layouts * - just like this.......... i53.tinypic.com/k0hhdj.jpg............A pic of a flying bogie after I'd just sneezed. You don't need to open an account and all you need is a couple of brain cells it's that easy. If you don't have any you can borrow one of mine, but give it back as the other one will get lonely................... Auxsetreq mod by Ceiling Cat. On a serious note some depots, particularly Hainault don't like you taking pics, so be covert like a double *O* secret agent. It would seem that some depot DDMs think that Al Qaeda could use the pic of a tube train bogie to launch an attack on such a place. Auxy has been bollocked on more than one occasion for getting out and extending his mega pixel Fuji.......... Many thanks for the advice regarding the uploading of pics I will look into it. That photo is of an old Kawasaki bogie; you can tell by the pivot pin near the bottom of the torque reaction link.

Ohh, thought Chancery Lane was a motor coming off the brackets? Chancery Lane happened because the 4 rota bolts holding the traction motor in place were (or became) loose. Brackets were then added to the motors of the entire fleet to ensure this incident didn't reoccur. The brackets essentially 'catch' the motor should the rota bolts fail. The new Siemens bogies utilise a different design altogether. Not quite. The rotabolt was the new bolt introduced after the fleet was grounded post-Chancery Lane. 1It was an earlier design of bolt that failed at Chancery Lane, causing the retaining bracket to bend. If you ever get a chance to see the bracket (not likely 2) or a photo of it you will see some of the holes have become elongated and closer to an ellipse, caused by the forces of the motor bending the metal. 1 = Which led to the joke Q: "What do you do if you see a Central Line train coming?" A: "Make a bolt for it!" 2 = Not likely as it's now a paperweight on my desk.

Stolen from squarewheels ...and reposted before - by me. ;D ... and one we were all telling in 2003 as the service was being re-introduced. I would suggest everywhere you've seen it (Squarewheels etc) is a repost from the original.

Delete *simples* and substitute *piece of cake* 'Cos these photographic extraordinaries were taken in a soon to be driverless depot and what you see will soon be operated by the human equivalent of a Mr Kipling Viennese Whirl...............Ladies and Gentlemen. May I present you with my Bogie Pics............... i56.tinypic.com/2qu6dy9.jpg...........boring or what?...........Though from what I understand, the round pedal bin thing in the middle is called a motor, and the silvery things either side of it are called wheels.............. i56.tinypic.com/2hgafy9.jpg

Thanks for the pics, very clear! The motors look fairly small compared to some of the old stuff.

Yup, the wheels look as if they've just been turned on the wheel lathe. Do they have one in Ruislip Depot? For some of us, the design is quite interesting. The bolster looks massive! Does it sit on air bags?

The bolster looks massive! Does it sit on air bags? That looks like the original body bolster to me. You can see mounting flanges at the corners. The airbags sit within it so the bolster casting has to be lifted off the bogie to get at the air bags.

Haha! Sneeky Siemens bogie pics from Hainault! Just to confirm they are indeed the same bolsters that were fitted to the Kawasaki bogies. Even the brake actuators are reused which is probably why they are currently failing at an alarming rate.........!

I was on a train yesterday, with new bogies n all that started vibing out of the blue. One minute ok, then the next Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr between 30 and 50kph. I had a lovely massage coming down from Epping. I said to my relieving driver "Good service no probs, 'cept a motor's about to blow up" - "Ok Mr A" he replied nonchalantly, as though it was nothing unusual, as it indeed isn't........... Bogie in situ......... i52.tinypic.com/xauxs2.jpg

Is it me, or does the ATO literally switch the power on and off, especially when hitting the 53mph limiter. I could swear it feels like power is switched off, then switched on again at 51-52mph. No wonder the motors blow up! I'm surprised there isn't a more progressive power reduction/build up, which I'm sure would combat the problem!!

The engineers need to stop being lazy and start using Coasting commands.

The Siemen's bogie refresh should be completed by now but it got postponed for several months because they ran out of backing plates for the motors (i.e. some tea leaf has weighed them in). The refresh just resumed last week (albeit at Ruislip only) and will be completed in the next few months.
The interior refresh project (eg. new windows, seat covers etc) has also now started in ernest leaving little room for maneuver with regards to reaching the trains for service target.
