The Bakerloo is the only Underground line to terminate at a station in more than one zone (Elephant is in zones 1 and 2), although the Overground (Crystal Palace in 3 and 4) and DLR (Liewsham in 2 and 3) do this.
I think the Bakerloo is the only line to be extended over lines it use to run on.

I think the Bakerloo is the only line to be extended over lines it use to run on. There have been several closures where the service was eventually re-instated - for example the CSLR. Didn't the Met run over the ELL on two separate periods: with no service between electrification of the main line in 1906 and electrification of the ELL itself in 1913?

There have been several closures where the service was eventually re-instated - for example the CSLR. The C&SLR was closed for tunnel enlargement, as a temporary closure rather than losing part of the line and regaining it.

3. Three timetabled termination/reversing points at the northern end (Harrow & Wealdstone, Stonebridge Park, Queens Park) ) The Central line has timetabled reversers at Epping, Debden and Loughton (all on the same branch) Central line - West Ruislip, Ruilsip Gardens and Northolt (all on the same branch). Piccadilly line - Cockfosters, Oakwood, Arnos Grove (plus Wood Green, although I don't think there are currently any timetabled reversers there). The Jubbly has 4 Stanmore, Wembley Park, Willeden Green (the 3 most terminated at) and West Hampstead.

According to my diagram (to follow), the boundary is at the northern end of the car sheds; so strictly speaking the line from the tunnel portal, through the platforms and through the car sheds is "surface running" and isn't shared with BR.

Ah Xerces, greetings! But all those lines have surface running elsewhere by themselves or shared with another tube line. My point is the Bakerloo is the only one that doesnt. But as rincew1nd states, theres a few hundred yards which put this theory to bust!

The Bakerloo is unique in that I've never been on it and thought that I wanted to be on this line rather than any other.
Perhaps that's a little harsh, but the only time I've ever used it when no other line was directly available was when I was at Piccadilly Circus going to Waterloo. In central London almost everything crosses over!

The Bakerloo is unique in that I've never been on it and thought that I wanted to be on this line rather than any other. I share your sentiments in a way. Even though I lived in "Metroland" during my years in the Capital, and even though I did get to travel on 1938 tube stock a couple of times on the Piccadilly, and even though I remember seeing the "B-loo"s trains everywhere from Wembley Park to Finchley Road, the next tube-related DVD I want to add to my fledgling collection is the one referring to tube travel to Stanmore and Watford.

Up until 1982 wasn't the Bakerloo the only tube line to use a BR depot on a regular basis? Oh, about a million pages ago, Oracle mentioned "Kilburn And The High Roads". Worth YouTubing for some of their stuff. Ian Dury's band prior to The Blockheads.

You know what? I hunted through this entire thread before I posted what I did thinking "that xercesfobe's bound to have got there before me" and then I found that the King Of Wiggenhall Road had in fact missed an absolute sitter! Although I never really used it in anger (got a lift to Watford Junction once at some god-foresaken hour of the morning just to say I'd done it - it was a 38TS BTW) I've always found that section of line, the now removed tracks to Croxley and the images of your favourite depot (and its subsequent dereliction and demolition) quite haunting in a strange sort of way. It's almost like it should never have happened. Some of the most enduring LUL images are those of a 38TS parked up next to a 501 in what is in effect, the middle of nowhere. Only Highgate sidings have anywhere near the same nostalgic effect for me.

Great photo - have you any more of the depot? Xerces Fobe I've none myself I'm afraid. Couldn't afford a proper camera back then! Made good now and have a few digitals but CWR is all gone! I just surf for these sort of things when I get the chance. This picture off a Google search is particularly good I think. I couldn't source the author though. Maybe somebody can lay claim?

Would the Bakerloo line benefit from extension to New Cross and Lewisham? I know there are logistical issues about extending south of the river, mostly geology-based, but it would seem as though a lot of people who normally use the Jubilee line may benefit from a quicker journey, not having to change and queue for ten minutes or so at Canada Water, Canary Wharf or London Bridge (South Eastern from Lewisham). I don't think the bus network is necessarily overstretched, but there would definitely be a more efficient use of facilities.
