I've been meaning to put this link up since I joined the forum and now I have got round to it: mydadsphotos.blogspot.com/2009/10/going-underground.html My cousin Simon is going through my late uncle John's photos and putting some of them up on this blog. These are the only two to have any relevance to this forum, (although there are more London related photos on the blog). As noted by my cousin, the photos are from February 1958 and were taken on the platforms at Piccadilly Circus and Hyde Park Corner. I presume the one at Piccadilly Circus is on the Piccadilly Line, as my fuzzy memory seems to remember the Bakerloo not being as straight. Hope you enjoy them. If any more Underground photos are posted I will put a link up to them.

I am not sure if Watneys' Brown Ale was subsumed by Mann's Brown Ale that was by the 1960s brewed by Watneys? Watneys Isleworth Brewery in St Johns Road had a good reputation, and local pubs had 'WATNEYS ISLEWORTH ALES' often in frosted glass windows. This was of course in addition to the Mortlake Brewery. The other Grotneys beer of note was Red Barrel..precedessor of the infamous Red.

The photo at Hyde Park Corner is on the eastbound platform looking west. The signal cabin can just be seen at the far (west) end.

The photo at Hyde Park Corner is on the eastbound platform looking west. The signal cabin can just be seen at the far (west) end. The signalmen there used to keep a full kettle boiling for the convenience of guards who could pop in and fill up their tea cans for a brew. Thank you gents, wherever you might be now.

I used to sneak a peak into the cabin from a train when sitting in the last car! It was of course a simple diagram in the cabin.
Next stop EB (Green Park) was where I commuted to from Hounslow West..
