and as for the bakerloo line at picc circus these points are now back in use after getting replaced over a 4 day long weekend closure Which is why I used the imperfect tense Quite so; the replacement of a crossover is not a simple whole. <excision of other grammatical jokes about progressive periphrastic passive>To return back to a bit more on-topic vein, if I was in the position to decide between a long period of inconvenience, or a short burst of unavailability - I really wouldn't like to make that decision. There are a lot more factors involved in the modern railway, especially since the fragmentation of the maintenance side, than those of us outwith (me included!) the contract awarding process dare to imagine!

... what is going on behind the hoarding at Goldhawk Road, its been like it for years but no sign of progress. Apparently the wall behind it is unstable, and the hoarding protects it. Presumably it can't be that unstable as it's remained like this for some years...

I feel 3 weeks would be a better option than a numerous amount of weekend closures. Saying that as was previously mentioned some work will take a whole weekend to set up and by the start of traffic would have to be brought down. I believe passengers will get used to the closures. In the long run it will be better for all of us. I cant wait. especially for the olympics. I can just picture the new trains rolling through our city. Its an incredible journey for us all with so much reward. I am so curious what it will be like with the station extensions for the s-stock. Same platform different look. Its going to be great. So lets not let a disruption like this let us down but rather jsut take the positive from it.
What will work schduling be like? Will it be 24 hour labour (constant shift swopping) to get the most out of the closure? Or will it be set times? I cant see this 3 week time limit being wasted. I hope theres enough money to have a constant work force on the line 24 hours a day to get the most out of the closure.
Im guessing hammersmith will be empty (no stock in its shed). I cant see there being any inside the depot (correct me if I am wrong), as 3 weeks is a long time and if anything went wrong with any trains and they were unable to take perfectly operating c stock into service because they were stuck in the shed unable to be used as they couldnt get down into service.
What is there in total 43 C stock in total on the whole system (just a wild guess so correct me if I am wrong). Lets say smith is empty. There must be space in in Acton, Upminster and neasden even if it is 4-5 trains in each maintanence shed. Lillie-bridge (again correct me if I am wrong) isnt ready to hold so much stock even tho there is upgrade work planned for the new future stock to be stabled there. If it is used then why cant they move parts etc from smith to there and Acton, Upminster and Acton.
This is starting to worry me a little now. I know I may be looking at this a little negative but God forbid somethings went wrong with any or a lot of C stock trains, and there wasnt space in any of these maintanence depots to store the C stock then without possible repair as well as a 3 week part line closure toped off with out of service trains there could be mayhem and severe disruptions on the part of the lines that will be in use.
Its not the stabling that worries me but the maintanence/repair issues. Trains can stable anywhere from platforms to reversers for this period but something as little as 1 broken window on a train which would be pulled out of service could be the start of a major problem.
My son was on a train recently where he got on at hammersmith. By the time he got to paddington met the train was pulled out of service as the entire lights on one of the middle carriages were not working. Just another very little issue (what I call little as I wouldnt put a whole train out of service just becasue there was no lighting on one carriage) which can add to the 3 week disruption.
So theres a very BIG positive out of this 3 week closure but I just pray the trains are fully serviced, spare parts in quick availability, and space to maintain and repair our stock while this closure is on.
Is it possible to find out exactly what work will be carried out for this closure. Will it be noticeable for the general public when the line is back in order or something that will be unseeingly (is that even a word in the dictionary lol) beneficial???
Anyhow. Time will tell. And even with any negative issues, time will heal.
One london. One underground.
I love it.
:-)

I think it's 35 trains for Circle and H&C operation and 11 for District operation, but I'm sure someone more qualified than me can set the record straight.

Just another very little issue (what I call little as I wouldnt put a whole train out of service just becasue there was no lighting on one carriage) Well, if it's daytime and the train is out in the open, then I'm inclined to agree with you. But, keep in mind that the loss of car lighting could be a sign of other, more serious problems with the train. Anyhow. Time will tell. And even with any negative issues, time will heal. One london. One underground. I love it. :-) Blimey ;D As I've mentioned here and/or elsewhere, I think the maintenance and day-to-day repairing of defects is fairly well planned out. My money, as I've also hinted, is on people wanting the return of their "new Circle" when they suffer a few weeks of "old Circle." Everyone will be reminded why it was a good move to get rid of it ;D

If the ES thought we were about to start running chocolate trains where chocoholics travel free, they would find someone somewhere (normally one of their own reporters) to complain against it.

I'm sure they would. People eating the trains while they are in motion doesn't sound particularly safe to me ;D

It is indeed the plan that the C stock trains will be outstabled all over the place. Upminster, Acton Works, Ealing Common, Neasden, Northfields and Lillie Bridge all featured in plans that I have seen and heard, (as does protection from vandalism!) though exact numbers per location seem to vary with each review. Whilst any train requiring major works may need to await access to Hammersmith it is considered the surplus trains will provide an adequate pool from which to maintain the scheduled service (trains will be kept serviceable and may be swapped about during the closure). One assumes the staff of Hammersmith depot will not be sitting idle but will be able to perform at least part of their shift and thus some works at a depot with some of the outstabled C stock. Trains that overnight at Barking are "prepped" by Upminster Depot staff in any event. A lot of thought has gone into it so hopefully all will be ok!

I thought there was an extreme line closure scheduled for the 26th/27th February "Hammersmith to Paddington"... then I realised it meant the Circle/H+C Paddington and not the Circle/District one... would be a bit pointless running an Edgware Rd - Paddington shuttle
