Under the recent / current Northern Line thread about the upcoming TBTC resignalling there was some discussion about past resignalling on other lines. A line Bakerloo resignalling of 1987-1991 was mentioned. Can anyone advise what work was done and where i.e. cabin [if any] replaced at that time, new IMRs [if any] (all V frames I assume ?), SCC control systems, SCADA, DC traction control ? communications ? CCTV ? etc ?

The work was a complete resignalling of the area from Embankment to Elephant & Castle and London Road. Waterloo IMR was built beneath the lower concourse at the bottom of the escalators and was prone to flooding if the sump pumps stopped. The whole line (E&C to QPK) was resignalled, at the time my involvement was comms multidisciplines. I installed/commissioned the signal post telephone systems in the Waterloo, Paddington and Queen's Park areas and the later centralisation of Waterloo, Piccadilly Circus, Baker Street, Paddington and Queen's Park SPTs to the Baker Street Bakerloo Control Room. I also replaced the tunnel telephones and local cabling at all stations from Elephant & Castle to Queen's Park and I ran all the new train radio leaky feeder cabling from Embankment to E&C and London Road. I was also involved in the commissioning of Line Controllers desk equipment for PA,CCTV and tunnel telephones at Baker Street control room on the night of the Paddington changeover which if memory serves me correctly was the night the new Bakerloo control room was commissioned. My recollection is of beginning the shift at Paddington locally commissioning SPTs then moving to Baker Street which was awash with operating and comms managers, there were quite a few comms problems in the control room as I recall, some of which were not fully resolved until a day or two afterward! Queen's Park cabin of course was replaced by the new IMR in the South sheds and a new IMR was built between the platforms at Paddington. Piccadilly Circus cabin was replaced by an IMR in the disused passageway area at the end of the platforms as I recall. I can't actually recall the work now but I ran cable in the platform invert to the old cabin before it came out and recall it as somewhat of a struggle as the invert was flooded to a depth of two or three feet. Baker Street had of course not had a cabin since the Jubilee stage 1 changeover with an IMR jointly serving Jubilee and Bakerloo lines. I also recall being involved in the Stonebridge Park diversion works, Bakerloo train radio cabling, when the North Circular Road was widened but I think that was later though I'm not sure after 20 years!

Thanks for that ... presumably a lot of that - CCTV, radio - was a precursor of OPO ?
