I've just been browsing the TfL website to check my travel plans for a few weeks time, and discovered that Cannon Street is closed Saturdays and Sundays "until further notice" from Saturday 13th March. I have two questions:
1) What is the reason for this closure?
2) When Cannon Street doesn't normally open on a Sunday anyway, why do TfL feel the need to publicise the fact that it will be closed Sundays as well?

Do you have the link for this? I've checked the 'Station Closures Six Month Look Ahead' page at www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/station-closures.pdf and it makes no mention of this closure. As to the second question I'd guess that this is to underline that the station will also be closed as usual on the Sundays involved as well as the Saturdays - it's probably to save confusion and misunderstanding.

Thanks for that.
Strange it appears on there but not on the six month sheet, but there we are!
Your hypthisis could well be right - especially of the NR station will be closed to the public.

Hmmm....
I'll try to remember to see if I can find anything when I go back to work next week.

Is it not related to LU station upgrade work?

Is it not related to LU station upgrade work? Sure i have read somewhere that the building above the station is being demolished and a new one built

To clarify, that link states that £20m is being spent on improving the mainline station as part of the development. The overall spend on the office development is stated as £410m.

In the weekly engineering email it states '' Cannon Street station is closed for major refurbishment work every weekend until summer 2012''.
