No they were not in passenger service. The southbound platform had those barrier things, and you couldnt get to the northbound platform from the Jubilee Line platforms because the escalators were closed.

Ah the announcements must have VERY recently been updated then, as I was told that earlier on in the week, the DMIs etc were still showing 'replacement bus service'. Thanks Uzair Siddiqi and Messiah for confirming this.

According to this email, the 28th April is now the predicted date for preview services:
Thank you for contacting London Overground.
Further to your email, I can confirm that we are hoping to open the East London line between Dalston Junction and New Cross for a preview service from Wednesday 28 April. As you may be aware that the preview service had been proposed to open last week but was postponed from 15 April.
We do hope that there will be no further delay in opening this section of the line up from next week but at this point I cannot guarantee this. Again with the timetables, we are still waiting for these to be published and made available to the public.
The full service will open from 23 May and will not be delayed to coincide with the reopening of the North London line between Stratford and Gospel Oak.
Yours Sincerely
Customer Service Team London Overground

It won't be running on Saturday! The trial running is Monday to Friday only. Considering they are currently running a seven days a week trial I wonder if they will just keep the stations closed while the trains run all through the weekend.

Trains were running yesterday, the stations were open for ticket office enquiries only.

Initial service will be from approx. 7am to about 8pm Monday to Friday only. There are plans that late evening and weekend services should start in May a week or two before full service commences on 23 May. That is the plan.................................

Ssh - don't tell Boris and Ken or they'll come and spoil the party again!
If that all goes to schedule the first trains in each direction will pass each other under the Thames.

Will be able to get down there after school finishes on Thursday. Will be quite emotional being on a train on the Kingsland Viaduct after all these years. As a child, I lived in Shoreditch, but never went on the Broad Street line. When I finally decided to go on it as a teenager, I found out that the line had closed. 24 years is worth waiting for!

Wasn't there 'at the off', but did board one with a 'first passenger train' sticker northbound at Whitechapel at about 13.00, having seen the other service initiator heading southbound at that time. Franky, apart from 'veg', Overground staff in abundance in their brand new hi-vi's (trying to look busy, and conspicuously failing, even the mass of cleaners at Dalston Junction had little or nothing to pick up), and a couple of BTP's finest, itching but resisting the urge, to do a section 44 stop on someone; it wa seriously quiet! ;D ;D ;D

Just caught the first northbound at Shadwell (having ahd my first ride on a 3-car DLR service as well).
A pity that Dalston Junction's information was a bit of a shambles on my way back, with no indication which was the first train out (one of them did have a big sticker saying "First Train" on the back, but that was a snare and delusion as the other one went first!) No DMIs or audible announcements working at any station or inside the train, so didn't know whether I was going to NWX or NXG.
However, it was nice to be on the Broad Street viaduct again after 24 years - my how the view has changed!
I noticed that there is still a forlorn bit of 4th-rail rack at the throat of where New Cross depot was!

I've seen photos of 378135, 144, 152 and 154, but what other units were in service today? Are all 378/1s available for service, or will some units only be used for testing until the through services to Crystal Palace and West Croydon start?

Took a bit of a diversion on my way to Canary Wharf this evening to give the new line a go. My thoughts in a word: wow! I'd been on the tunnel tour, so knew what to expect from the stations. But the trains were a bit of a surprise, unlike anything you normally find in this country. Being able to see down the length of the train, and the cooling in the cars, made it feel more like a european tram/metro system than anything British. Although the moquette did have something of unrefurbished D stock about it

Don't know how many they will need for the "full" 0700-2200 preview service. I was told that it's 4 tph on both NXG and NWC making it 8 tph on the core section: xx05, xx20, xx35, xx50 DLJ-NWC, xx12, xx27, xx42, xx57 DLJ-NXG. Didn't catch the return timings but my train back from NXG was at 1340. HTH Martin

If anyone can get hold of the basic (working) departure times the other way (and the run times) I'd be very grateful.
Journey Planner claims it to be xx03, xx18, xx33, xx48 from N+ and xx10, xx25, xx40 and xx55 from NXG.
Is the WTT at half-minute resolution? I think it probably is, because it would fit a 7½/15 min clockface.
Although the services are supposed to be vastly different these days, it's worth commenting that the 7½/15 appeared in the off-peak in 1943; peak in 1964 and the earliest I've got to hand for a self-contained service at (I think this frequency, rather than 10/20) is an Easter TTN for 1934.
Not much changes, I suppose. ;D
