Noted today that the ELL track in platform 1 at New Cross Gate has now been put correctly in place and welded up to the NR track.
The temporary stopping board has been moved further northbound in P1 - I presume so that the ELL test trains don't get to close to the real punters and confuse them?
NXG is now also sporting a single solitary London Overground style platform station name board.
I noticed that the old LUL PIS is style hanging under the canopy of P1/2, is this going to be removed or will it be used by the L.O services?
{edited to change ...removed and will... to ...removed or will...}

Opening on a Sunday allows an easier 'bed in' for staff, service operation and passenger use. Rather than open for the peak on say a Monday and it all goes tits up... that'd go down really well with the Standardites... Can't wait myself!

and the service isnt being advertised to allow a gradual opening. But it seems lots of people do know already!

We were told that there would likely be a 'soft' opening, whereby we just start opening the doors and the service isnt being advertised to allow a gradual opening. Blimey - that's a rather meaningless phrase: either you have a week of ghost running at fake station stops [1] or you just go straight into the service! [1] perhaps a different lesson has been learnt from things like the different stages of the Vic Line or the JLE opening. Perhaps the world has changed <shrug>.

Noticed yesterday for the first time that 378s at 'New Cross Gate' are now displaying Dalston Junction on their destinations rather than 'London Overground'. It all looks to be coming together nicely.

And the opening date I am now told is highly likely be 11th April due to stations not being completed, some of which do still look a lot like a building site at platform level although quite a few do look like they are ready. The W/Croydon section isnt likely to be running till some point in May. The extensions to West Croydon and Crystal Palace won't happen until 23rd May, when the Southern timetable changes to free up the space on the main line.

Not even then, if the Network Rail journey planner is to be believed (the only trains shown Crystal Palace to NXG are the "outer South London Line" services)

To clarify, I had put in a date after May 23rd, adn it happily copes with other changes - notably the Wandsworth Road to Ealing Bdy parliamentary service

However, Journey Planner North East (which is used in certain track bashing circles as it has platform information which is often missing on the National Rail site) does have the London Overground services as well as the Southern and they are in from 23rd May. Noted the TFL multi-modal "totem" at Canada Water hooded over, no doubt a new installation which includes the LO roundel alongside the LU and Buses versions.

Yup, which made getting from Canada Water to Rotherhithe for the tunnel tour the other day just that bit more fun Much better to walk than try and get a bus - 5 mins to walk, closer to 10 on the bus and youll have to wait for it...

I suspect londonsuff meant that he had the same difficulty as I did, which was arriving at Canada Water on the bus, being unfamiliar with the area and so relying on having looked at the map beforehand for a walking route to Rotherhithe station, then being thrown by the bus' drop-off point being a little south of the bus station and very unfamiliar. While running late (due to said bus being 25 minutes late) and marshalling a pair of geographically-clueless parents.
Perhaps.

It's possible that a 'soft' opening (i.e. no big announcements) will occur sometime between 4th April and 15th April!! This will simply be a full public service between Dalston Junction and New Cross/New Cross Gate. However this depends upon final contractors handover and final snagging and operational testing. In any event full ELL service south of NXG cannot commence till the NR timetable change date at the end of September.

There is new enamel signage on the DR/H&C platforms at Whitechapel to show "Overground".
The previous version showing "East London Line replacement buses" (covered with white vinyl since closure) have been removed.

Obviously subject to handovers etc which may only mean that only a small portion is "open". Martin

We (the Royal 'we' that is!) are all going for a ride on Tuesday night from NXG to Shoreditch High Street including a depot visit - so.......we might get a strong hint as to a 'soft' opening date - 8th April is possible even if stations north of Shoreditch are not yet handed over - trains could run empty north of Shoreditch in scheduled paths reversing at Dalston. All will be revealed soon I hope! ;D
