They're trouble was lack of good maintenance for most of their life,when they were introduced most of the fleet staff on the Northern were used to 38TS and had issues with the "new fangled trains".Even in the early 90s when I was at Golders Green there were several of the more senior members of staff who were O.K. on 56/59/62TS but were literally "scared" of doing any fault finding on 72TS.

Ah yes - the joys of the Rheo Brake Proving Relay etc. etc. I did a detailed description of the 72TS brake control system when I was in the RSE training section.

Just to point out that gauging involves 3 elements not 2. Apart from car length and car width, bogie spacing ("wheelbase") needs to be included since this affects both overhangs and platform edges on inner curves.

Just a pity that Stagecoach don't take that into consideration. I digress......
