C Stock is more knackered than A Stock I'm surprised by the figures. C-Stock are OK for the job they do. Even I defend the C-Stock when it comes to S-Stock. It's right what they say about new technology, it never works. I don't want A60/62 Stock to go. The point of S stock was to have a standard fleet for the sub-surface lines, and that would help because if, for example, there is a gap in the H&C service, they could divert a District instead of a Circle. But, the Met's S stock will be longer, so a Met can't become a Circle. S stock could be better that the C stock. So, I do not defend the C stock or D stock when it comes to S stock. The S8's will need more seats! As extending the Met to Barking isn't happening, the only bit of the Met in the Central area ,where it is busy, is the Circle from Baker Street to Aldgate, that runs OK with A stock at the moment. So, I do defend the A stock when it comes to S stock.

While it is true that a standard S7 fleet gives a bit more flexibility in the fleet, it won't usually be possible for on the hoof line changes like the one you suggest as the District driver won't be road trained for the North Circle or Hammersmith branch. So unless a controller can get a C,H&C spare to Aldgate East, it won't usually be much help. The big advantage of standardisation is in maintenance/repairs etc

Also the pool of trains available will allow more choice to-unlike the current situation with the C stock!

They could but it would cost more, lengthen the learning period and mean 3 times the retesting on road training-keeping people like Dave very busy!

Didn't District crews have route knowledge of the northern circle before?
For people like Dave it isn't too much more route knowledge, only Edgware Road to Aldgate East and Hammersmith to Edgware Road. There isn't much point in doing this though, but in the past the DR used to run some of the trains and the Metropolitan ran the other trains on the 'Inner Circle'.

personally I am not a BIG fan of the C stock but they are pretty good, I mean with eight doors on each car you can't really complain about little failiures from time to time. they do have alot of spaceand are pretty big. But what I dont like is the TBC's beacause they always seem to be knakered out. personally I love the A stock apart from the 95ts they are my favorite, but with their age in mind, they are not always practical for MAS transit and central london workings.

No they're not too great in the central area-but could you imagine what the T stock would have been like!! Imagine if you made the 3+2 seating into 2+2 on the A stock-there would be loads of space!

A fair years ago! During Strikes in the mid/late 70s District crews operated the Circle Line using CO/CP stock!
