Another easy one to answer! Sometimes, while waiting at Earl's Court, there are trains in both westbound platforms going to Wimbledon, which immediately outside of Earl's Court branches off to the left. A couple of times I've seen both trains head off at exactly the same time, both heading safely into the distance without stopping (from where I'm standing!) So, my question is, how far out of Earl's Court do these two tracks merge and does one have priority over the other? Thanks again

Neither have priority, depends which ones the signal man sends first. Think there is about two signals before the tracks merge, then one more just before the platform at West Brompton... it is not that far before they merge

The tracks converge just before the platforms at West Brompton. You can see them (and hear them) if you stand at the East end of the Eastbound platform at W. Brompton.

Back in my days of travelling on the District Line - trains from the City always seemed to have priority over the Edgware Rd trains. I'd go as far as say it was over 90% of the time.
But no doubt with so many experts here - this was just the fact I travelled at roughly the same time every day ;D

I think City trains get priority, generally its because usually they have come from Upminster (about 70 mins away) and are probably running later (this is the District) than the trains that have just come from Edgware (a mere 10 mins away).. so therefor D stock go through before the C's

the route is automatically set up by either S10 or S6 depending what mode them machines are in but generally its in a FCFS mode so what ever train enters the junction first thats the one who gets priority to west brompton

That's surprising - I can remember loads of times jumping on a C stock, departing just as the D arrives and then we wait just outside West Brompton and the D passes

the route would be already pre-selected when the trains are in the platform via the lever op circuits

It always feels like the C gets priority ! In a D I often get away first only to wait "round the corner" for the C to eventually appear and dawdle by !!
Going east the C is much more likely to get the "go" before an Upminster arriving at the same time in the adjacent platform !

So the obvious point here is the priority almost always goes to the OTHER train! ;D ;D ;D
More seriously though, I find C's usually get the priority... so platform 4 might be the best option!

My understanding has always been that, as a general rule, the signallers will attempt to keep trains in the running order of the timetable - and (in contradiction to Aspect's experiences!) it usually seems the D Stock that will get to West Brompton first as it's (usually) ex-Upminster and has lost time en route whereas the C Stocks have only come down from Edgware Rd and are on time.
Speak as you find...............
Perhaps JTD will spot this!!

Having worked at all District depots (except Barking) - I have driven plenty of C & D stocks to Wimbledon...............and Chrish has it spot when he says "the obvious point here is the priority almost always goes to the OTHER train!". I couldn't agree more with that sentiment ;D ;D Of course there is one potentially helpful clue - a train in platform 3 can see the repeaters for both roads, so if the the route is set up and cleared for one of the two trains, the train op in platform 3 will be able to see it
