I have noticed something strange about the siding at Whitechapel. It seems to have a standard colour light signal at its outlet, as opposed to the usual arrangement of having a shunt (disc) signal.
Why is this? Is it a unique setup on the underground?

That's 25 road. I have no idea why it is a colour light signal!
Barons Court siding also has a colour light signal at the west end, but then that siding also has a colour light signal to let you in in the first place.

Excuse my ignorance but BC Siding (aka Hammersmith Siding) is surely signalled as a passenger (through) line? I am guessing this as it has been used in the Westbound direction, and on the (yes I am going to mention it again) the Auto-tube Rambler tour we reversed in the siding without clipping & scotching, etc. BUT we had to have a signalled move forward in the easterly end (BC direction) into the sand drag as the 8-car train was fouling the west-end points. No securing of points was required! I would have thought that the WB-EB move was also signalled as a passenger movement, whereas regulations would prevent such a move with a shunt signal?

Precisely - it makes sense for Barons Court siding to have a colour light signal to exit because there's one to enter. But 25 road at Whitechapel makes no sense because the move into the siding is shunt signalled.

Also, Whitechapel 25 road is single ended!

the signal at barons court / hammersmith is colour light signalled because the points have the additional secruity of a ground lock (WL) which stops the points moving if the air pressure was lost to the points these are only put on points which are facing passenger moves i.e not depot/ siding points
whitechapel those points have no WL so god knows why it has a colour light and not a shunt disc always whitechapel 25 road has a traction fuse protection circuit if the operator trys to wind up against the signal (red) the fuse will blow and knock off the current to that siding only this is due to the close proximity of platform 4
