Does anyone know the reasons for the problems on the District today. On the way in could see they were stacked from Barking towards London and when at Tower Hill the traction current was switched off?

Multiple signal failures - all unrelated.
Started off at Embankment, then one went down in the Plaistow area and finally another in the Aldgate East area.
As a result the service was decimated - trains all over the place, drivers being well over their hours, late meal reliefs, signallers not correctly identifying trains , trains being short tripped.
You name it - it happened.

The current went off twice Whitechapel to Tower Hill, one of which a Tunnel Telephone activation too. Drivers going walkies, late running near and over 60 mins, crew relief issues.

and there's now been a signal failure at Fulham Broadway just to make everyone's journey home that much nicer. I expect there will be a good number of people glad when today is over!

Circle got minor delays? That's not too bad considering what happened!

Looks as though Metronet will be slaughtered for the delays then!

Why would or should a driver explain about the tripcock? I assume that's a reference to not making the advisory to "sit down or hold on tight as the train will stop suddenly" type of warning before tripping past. (Of course the tripcock wouldn't be mentioned by name) I usually refer to "testing the emergency brakes" .. on a refurb D of course you can play the pre-recorded announcement.

Re: DD's reply above saying: " trains being short tripped. "
Is it correct this refers to trains being terminated short of scheduled destination, passengers being unloaded, then reversed to try to retain service intervals, as opposed to any reference to "trip-cocks" please?
Thanks for clarification.

You are indeed correct OPR - " trains being short tripped. " does mean "trains being terminated short of scheduled destination, passengers being unloaded, then reversed to try to retain service intervals".

Another fine day looms with overrunning engineering work at Hornchurch, and no service between Barking and Upminster until at least 06.10, when I finished.

I think it was up again by 7 when I went down for platform duties, but it had severe delays for quite some time and even when I left at about midday, I think it was still on minor - although I seem to recall noticing in the H&C text something about a signal problem at Barking, so maybe that compounded matters.

Yeah, there was a failure at Barking that had a bit of blocking back = more late running! There were a fair few about 60 mins late, plus some crew relief issues!
