As you know there are screens along the Richmond branch displaying life departure information for LU and Silverlink trains. However I wondered how the information is fed to the screens for the LU trains.. say a Richmond train is cancelled because of a defect who is responsible for inputting the information to the system so that it appears on the departure screens Gunnersbury Kew and Richmond that the train is cancelled?? Also what if the train is running say 5 minutes late due to a PEA for example.. how does the LUL and NR system interact so say the screens will show the trains current expected arrival time? Thanks

At Richmond the Signalman has a computer that is used for booking trains (IIRC). I think this then feeds the Dot Matrix and acts as a Train Following System. In a similar way that LU Service Operators enter train numbers to the Wimbledon branch Train Following system. I don't think our trains, unless a delay occurs, are put onto TRUST (the NR delays system).

Those screens at Richmond are often very inaccurate. Last time I did the Richmond - High St service during an ECT - Whitechapel shutdown, the screens still showed Upminster destinations, which wasn't very helpful. (It's amazing how many passengers will argue with the driver even when he's just told them where the train's going - I think I'm the most likely to know!)

Richmond signal box sometimes doesn't recieve the special timetables when they are in operation!

It's amazing how many passengers will argue with the driver Why amazing? - the customers are ALWAYS right ( at least they think they are down here!!) Sometimes you're just tempted to let them get on anyway and find out the hard way...............but we transport guys are professionals aren't we??

Our trains do appear on TRUST but not azs the number they are on LU. For example Bakerloo line trains become 2JXX

The only time our trains get entered onto trust is if they have an impact onto a NR train. Which is rare as the signallers turn into qiuvering jellies if you even suggest putting a district an hour in front of a main liner. ;D Wait for the correct signal at GB1 driver, the trains just left Stratford!! ;D ;D ;D

It is a bit annoying though the screens showing that a train is running "on time" to the customers, if say it is cancelled or if indeed the line is suspended even. The customers on the platform wouldn't have a clue. Why are these screens not updated to show the correct information instead of giving all customers WRONG information. In this day real-time information on the platform should be something we can expect as standard!

Those screens do seem a bit random !
Sometimes the top 8 trains on the departures list are all Upminster's 2 to 3 hours old ! Presumably cancellations !
Other times when we are out of sequence, the indicator seems to just allocate you the next train expected sequentially, and thus misleads passengers as to next one out.
Off course there is no predicting the order in which we (or the Overground) operators will hit the ready to depart plunger - so it can't be more than a guide !
Other times it is spot on, with the estimated late running and estimated time of departure !
There is one annoying trip in the afternoon that all the times are right, but always shows as a Tower Hill service, but runs to Dagenham East.
I've yet to see it cope correctly with an "additional train" ...is a C stock getting there really shown as returning to Edgware Road ?? I've never seen it cope with oddities like Plaistow's, Mansion House or Whitechapel's for special workings.
