I know we had a moan here before about the "Mind the Gap" announcements at Gloucester Road ... Have we also moaned about them now being announced at the recently refurbished (well, a lick of paint) and perfectly straight Elm Park ! I wonder how long until the adjacent residents have a moan about them, totally unnecessary and go on until last trains ! One assumes that since none of our passengers customers have a hope in hell of falling down the non existant gap between the station and the train, that the warning must be reffering to the "gap" between trains, as a result of most of their service being turned at Dagenham and Barking to maintain the "precious" west end branches !

You wait till Boris gets his hands on your train-set - there'll be dolly-birds dishing out free caviar on the Richmond and Wimbledon branches and if you Essex boys are very very good you might get a train once a fortnight More seriously, and I'm sure this has been dealt with before but I'm too idle to hunt around for the thread, is there a need for more west to eastbound reversing capacity in the central area - a case for restoring a third platform at South Kensington, say?

I was 'forced' to reverse at Whitechapel recently (east to west), despite my protests that I was getting off the train at Upminster, so I appreciate the west to east question more than most!
We can reverse west to east at Embankment, so I don't think a third platform at South Kensington (where we can also reverse west to east, incidentally) is justified.
The easiest solution would be to make Mansion House bay double ended - maybe even Tower Hill too. Just a thought...........

Would the reinstatement of Victoria's #-over assist in any way?

Problem is that Embankment is a trailing crossover - trains reversing on it delay the through serrvice. The double ending of Mansion House bay road does sound like a good idea. Remember that there are few places at the west end of the District where trains can be turned short, whereas at the east end Whitechapel, Plaistow, Barking and Dagenham East can all be used, even Hornchurch if they're desperate! Hence the reason that Upminster suffers in times of disruption. The Central line by far has the most options for turning trains short, and this is fairly well balanced between east and west.
