Well it's still at Upminster - now hiding on 27 road. As I was sent to bring out a 'mid-day stabler' this afternoon......on 29 road!!........I took a couple more naff pics: As you can see, there's no damage to any of the polystyrene - but I don't know if that was applied at Upminster / the train hasn't been out with it on or what the score is. 'They' must have some idea though - after all it did make it to Upminster!

Nice pic Aspect Having looked at that dent on the front corner, I'm fairly sure I've seen that before - meaning it isn't recent; I can't be sure though..........did it look fresh? As for it's purpose? Gauging runs to see if they fit east of Dagenham/Upney/Barking - wherever it is they're known to get too close to platforms. If all goes well, they will visit Upminster more regularly for a go on the wheel lathe. If i've got the correct unit, thats been like it for as long as I can remember. In fact the dent pre dates the inter car barriers IIRC. I think the dent goes behind the inter car barrier holder if I've got the correct unit. I'd probably pay to take a C stock to Upminster. Westinghouse all the way.

Just a quick update on this - I spoke to one of the depot guys yesterday, and the C stock is there in order to allow the wheel lathe to be commissioned to take C stock. Two cars were taken into the lathe yesterday, while the other four cars were being shunted up and down 48 road to allow the depot staff to practice using them (and having to learn/re-learn about Train Line and the Westinghouse ;D ;D) I understand that, assuming all goes well, C stock will start to make trips up to Upminster, driven by test train crews, It is expected that each one will stay at Upminster for about 2 days, as it will take about 16 hours to take the whole train, one unit at a time, through the lathe.

How likely is it that these C stocks will find their way there in passenger service? Considering how easily the SSL goes up the wall in disruptions I can see someone at Baker Street sending a C stock due for lathe attention to Upminster directly, without tipping it out first.

I had that pleasure 4 or 5 years ago... getting out at Elm Park on a C Upminster run with cattle on board..... Not sure why it was doing on that route but it sure was a novelty... Just a shame I didn't have a camera with me at the time

Err - no chance whatsoever ;D ;D Since it will be Test Train crews who will be driving them, and most drivers at the East End of the District are not trained to operate C stock, and C&H drivers are not trained east of Barking, it just ain't gonna happen ;D
