Changing trains there this afternoon, I noticed that the new train indicators are now in operation.
The arrows on the old ones pointed towards the platform on which the train would arrive. The new ones point in the opposite direction!
Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to why?

They actually point more clearly to the destination itselt now instead (I think!). A few of them appear to be far too high up at the moment, whilt the roof is being worked on and all those hoardings are in the way. I am suprised they didnt change the "Stops Here" to "Terminates" though?

It was supposed to be like for like. Well, sort of.

I thought that the original arrangment where the arrow indicated the destination and at the same time pointed to the actual platform was quite neat.
If, as it appears above, the arrows now point towards the opposite platform then I am sure there will be some passengers who are misled into thinking that that is the actual departure platform (ie. "This platform - That platform" )

also the signs which say on the eastbound which one leaves first if they come in with a city (via south ken description) are not wired up in any way to the new signs and never will be as these actually come off the programme machine circuits called discriminator units. personally i think the new signs are too high and are not easy readable especially from the warwick road end (west end) of the station

The new repeater indicators at Earl's court are temporary and will remain only for the duration of the reconstruction works. So exact details are not important.
The original indicators will be eventually taken away and refurbished. The repeaters will be taken away and new dot matrix indicators installed to work in tandem with the refurbished originals.

i hope they run the new cabling for the dot matrix as it has never been run into earls court this would cost a small fortune and for the time being any non-important projects as people are aware of have been put on the very back burner due to recent events

Given this week's events who can say how long those works will take? And in the meantime sloppy design has led to potentially misleading indicators being installed. Earl's Court has a lot of visitors using it, not only because they want to, but also because they are sometimes sent there due to gaps on the Circle.

They are certainly way too high ! Perhaps if they lower them they can turn them round, then the arrows would point to the train as well as the destination !
Why they maintained the rather peculiar order of the displays is strange too ! I rather like them just the same.
I'm glad they don't repeat the "High Street Kensington and Edgware Road" wording which seems to confuse passengers, when plain "Edgware Road" seems not to.
When first installed they did not work if the train was running to High Street or Edgware Road (except if the signal operator changed the display after thet train was berthed, they seemed to work then !) But they work fine now.
