If I was told to go for the most operationally suitable with money no object I'd go for speed sensing and putting ∆xxPDCRs/∆xxPDZRs in all over the place - more components, more initial outlay, more ongoing maintenance. ∆xxPDZR? How old school! The PDZR was part of the original PD circuit with a PDR, PDZR, PDSR and PDCR. It's rare for that circuit to be installed now (though we did put them in on the W&C, but that was more for uniformity). When Edgware Road was last resignalled a different circuit with just the SR and CR was developed. Where PDs were used as Delta replacements on other sites it wasn't unheard of to use the SR up and CR down to feed the original ∆Rs. Oh, and there's one more small problem: The RSE45 sensor heads are now obsolete.

Surely by this point there is too much face at risk to just abandon it now? It won't be abandoned before it comes in if you see what I mean. As many of us have agreed, on paper it is a pretty clever timetable (apart from not having self-contained services.) As for the idolisation, this may become part of the story told to younger generations when they too decide to try a t-cup service ;D Perhaps with the SSL resignalling it'll again be possible to consider a real reorganisation of services, and solve the more intricate problems inherrent at some junctions and stations. Maybe, but at the end of the day, even with the best kit and trains, flat junctions are flat junctions, and even driverless trains fitted with ATP need to wait for the train currently on the junction to clear out of the way. Whats the largest section, out of interest? Well, in mileage, that's easy. Chalfont & Latimer-Chesham single line ;D Apart from this one, many of the north end of the Met sections are quite long. I don't have mileages to hand, but Chorleywood through to Croxleyhall (Watford Junctions) must be a contender.

the new substation at edgware road will be put in when the sidings are removed which will be after december and will be put in the place where the sidings will no longer be

Trains starting from Hammersmith will be described as “Circle Line via Aldgate” instead of “Circle Line via Kings Cross” or “Circle Line via Liverpool Street”. At Aldgate this will change to “Circle Line to Edgware Road”. In-car DVAs are to be amended to match. On the return trip trains will be described as “Circle Line via Aldgate”, then at Aldgate change to “Circle Line to Hammersmith” with “Hammersmith” shown on station DMIs. Does this mean it is confirmed the new arrangement will still be called the Circle line or is there still a change of the name being amended?

It was always the case that it would still be called Circle Line, just that the stations from Paddington to Hammersmith will now be served by the Circle Line in addition to the Hammersmith & City, other than "maps" I wouldn't expect any signage alterations. A DVD about the new arrangements was playing for staff when I arrived today, (but it had been muted and was showing subtitles... I guess the counter staff were fed up with it ;D ;D ) I didn't have time to watch it through, but I shall aim to watch it properly tomorrow.

They probably will change the signs on the Hammersmith branch, but if it is still called the Circle line, then at other stations only the maps would need to be replaced. Some signs on the Hammersmith branch and the north part of the circle are out of date at the moment anyway, as they still show the H&C as part of the Met.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that this weekend was to be a trial of "The New Circle", anyone out there know if this is still the plan?
I've looked at the TfL engineering thingy, for the previous trials is mentioned that there was no through service between Notting Hill Gate and Baker Street, but nothing for the coming weekend. TVM in advance.

Look under "Planned Engineering Work" "Tube Stations" and you'll see Edgware Road (Circle): "Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October, there is no through Circle line service. Passengers travelling between Bayswater and Baker Street in either direction will need to change trains at Edgware Road". But who will look at that unless they are planning a journey that starts, finishes, or would normally change at ER? There is no indication under "Tube Lines" that anything is happening to the the Circle Line

Maybe all that won't fit, so best stick with the original way of displaying it.
I'm sure it will be fine, both this weekend and from 13th December...
