I just remembered that when I was at Ashfield on a course once a colleague commented on all the whistles being blown outside by District Line trains. At the time I didn't have a clue and since I don't use that line often I have to say I still don't!
So what's all the whistling for? What's down there?

I think T/Ops and shunters have to blow up whenever starting a move within the confines of a depot - ISTR hearing a few whistles popping one time while watching trains shunt at Ealing.
