Declared today that the Metronet / GB Freight connection for engineers trains is going to be at Barking not Upminster.
This was at a NR meeting - any vibes or rumours on the ground ?

So is the half built connection at Upminster going to be abandoned?

It may be a while before the next meeting - but will ask.
Barking seems better in aggregate as there is better connectivity with the main source of GB freight activity - Kettering - you sometimes see the returning trains with track sections and used ballast heading north on a Monday morning on the Midland main line.

well the east end of the line is going to be slightly upgraded with the signalling system between bromley by bow and upminster in the near future (before the major resignalling) with newer style track circuits also found on the olympia branch

Whereabouts at Barking? I would guess that it is more likely to be near Upney?

I suspect that the easiest way to do it is to extend the platform 1 bay road through the station environs to connect it with the e/b District.
