Any one noticed an extreemly bright green platform repeater has appeared at Victoria westbound ? It looks to be made up of a collection of bright green LED's ...when you get closer it seems the conventional green lens is in place. Has a bulb been replaced behind the lens by an LED "bulb" fitment Either way it's very clear and full marks ! (and given almost half the platform and fog repeaters have one or both aspects out at the moment ... roll it out !!!)

So the LED repeaters have begun to spread through SSL land - the only LED repeater I knew of until now was Gloucester Road e/b.

The one at Gloucester Road e/b was fitted at the same time as one at Monument w/b, except the one at GR has two distinct aspect "lenses" where as the one at Monument have yellow and green LED's interlaced in the same "lens" Not seen any others on the District ...untill this odd one that has surfaced at Victoria, as it's behind a conventional lens, i'm not certain it is LED's ...but it IS bright ! lol ! ;D

the w/b at victoria and the e/b at embankment plat repeaters are indeed LED direct replacement fittings with a standard lamp fitting on them for easy fitment i put them in on the 4th of december they are on trial before they get approved next site is south ken but this time they going in the home signals they cost over £200 each and yes they are very bright after i put them in all i could see was spots for a few minutes the ones at gloucester road are different spec the whole lens is a LED ( like JLE ) so basically it doesnt have a lens unlike the plat repeaters at victoria and emabankment

(Sloane Square w/b and Upton Park e/b being just two of many that display no aspect more often than they display an aspect ! So then add in the cost of reporting the defect, somone changing the bulbs (eventually) etc ... As for Fog repeaters ... I assume the life of these is measurable in minutes !!! lol !!! ;D ;D ;D (Fog repeaters are now required to be illuminated at all times {since 2003 i think} as a SPAD reduction measure )

the plat repeaters and fog repeaters use the same type of bulb and 3 years ago there was a very dodgy batch and these would last only for a couple of hours some even blew as soon as they got installedi had to check the voltage on the w/b plat repeater at sloane sq as you say it keeps blowing but the voltages were fine the only thing it can be put down too is the vibration of the signal head but according to some experts at metrocrap if the voltage is 110v instead of 100v this can shorten the life of the bulb by upto 20%

They were going to be trialled at Baker Street and Farringdon I think, but after fitting them it was found that if you shine a torch or any other light directly at the repeater, the LEDs reflected back the light and made it seem as if the repeater was illuminated.
Mind you, if this 'trial' is anything like the one on the fixed red light at Farringdon, we'll still be using filament lamps when I retire.

Well that's news to me. Unless someone has just put them in anyway regardless.

next site is south ken but this time they going in the home signals Not if the assurance paperwork doesn't go through... There was an issue on the JLE about the output colour in low temperatures which had to be overcome. There is another slight difference - the both the yellow and the green are slightly different to the colour using a lamp.

(Fog repeaters are now required to be illuminated at all times {since 2003 i think} as a SPAD reduction measure ) Yeah, and it was an Upminster person who was one of the H&S reps behind it IIRC. From what I can gather the days of all the fog repeaters being switched on are numbered.

Oh? Will they remove the switches to force them to be on at all times?
