New pocket maps and station posters spotted at certain stations.
Pocket map is dated January 2009 (seen at Liverpool Street). The only difference I can see compared with the October version (the correctly printed one) is that the warning text in the key about Monument/Bank has been reversed out, Victoria Line is now fully open, and Bow interchange has been reworked to match some other out-of-station interchanges. Anyone catch anything else? Woolwich Arsenal is still under construction.
Some station posters seen dated March 2009, with Woolwich and Tower Gateway open.
I guess that stocks of pocket maps are running low, so they needed to shelve this one, but its a bit of a surprise that their sparkling new DLR section is still under wraps.

I was surprised with Woolwich Arsenal still being under construction on the maps. My guess was that, because they have also just released those specialist disability access/toilet maps at all stations, they may be rethinking the map, getting rid of the wheelchair symbols and maybe even come up with a very different design altogether.

You are not a million miles from the truth there, which makes this hasty issue all the more surprising. Cold feet somewhere.

Hmm have to try and grab a copy. Surprised they bothered with a jan map as there needed to be a march 09 one once Blackfriars closed and Tower Gateway reopen in a silmar time frame.
Maybe they realised it costs to much for a temp couple of months map and the current ecomincal climate made they not do a full introduction of the Jan map.

Has the March map been seen by anyone. If so, anything strange about it?
I've heard a rumour from a good source that there might be.

Very interesting, Max, can you ellaborate? Is it likely to be big redesign, akin to that of 1990? Or is that too optimistic.

Has the March map been seen by anyone. If so, anything strange about it? I've heard a rumour from a good source that there might be. The March 2009 poster map is up at a few stations. Apart from Imperial Wharf appearing as "opening late 2009" - Blackfriars show as crossed through- and Tower Gateway as open, i can't see anything of significant change. tinyurl.com/btrtu4 :shows Imperial Wharf The January 2009 pocket Tube Map: tinyurl.com/aeq8dr :cover tinyurl.com/avgtsg :map Differences October 2008-January 2009: - Victoria Line evening closure boxes removed - BOROUGH loses its "Exit only during peak hours" tag - NORTH GREENWICH boat symbol added - BOW ROAD-BOW CHURCH interchange link removed, stations just shown as '200m' apart - ACTON TOWN gains two wheelchair symbol interchange circles

Waterloo Jubilee would be the easiest kink to sort out and retain the blob, but they still don't seem to have bothered from those. That would a really simple thing to do!!!

I have one in front of me right now: It's labelled March 2009, has a black and white figure of a cartoon/statue on the front, and has a number of small changes.
Woolwich Arsenal is added, and it's a straight vertical line from King George V, not with the strange curve as the under construction one had. There's a note at Blackfriars, a nd Imperial wharf has been added. No note about Tower Hill anymore, and the Bank situation is only mentioned in the 'key to lines' bit. Not sure if twas already like that. The box about Watford Junction being outside the zones is ridiculously small.
The ELR bus service is still there, as is the 381. That's about al the changes I can see.

AIUI, construction is taking place.
Somewhere in my collection I have a map which dates from before the Victoria extension to Brixton opened.

Been at a few stations this weekend and they have the following maps
Waterloo - Oct 08 Bond Street - Jan 09 Highgate - March 09
To be honest the ones I managed to get are a much stonger colour than others. Side by side the Jan and march maps really shows the difference off. Ive checked agaisnt some Oct map and Im seeing the same thing. Colours are darker and therefore more visible to the viewer. An improvement to be sure.
The cover is Troubadour Carrying A Cytiole by Pul Noble 2009.

The cover is Troubadour Carrying A Cytiole by Pul Noble 2009. You mean a minstrel playing a violin?

Just visited TfL website for the map. How long have they had the "do the survey" popup? Firefox won't block it, but that's not the point. If you say 'no' then navigate to a new page, the popup reappears. Only way to use the site now is to say 'yes' - it then opens in a new window and you can minimise it till you've done with TfL then you can close it. Is this what they call good customer relations? When other websites do it it's called something VERY different.......... Or are they just trying to turn folks away from the website altogether (rant over)

Me neither. Did the survey and not been asked since (except when I used a different computer which hacks into my neighbour's wireless network)
